I have a Marlin 39A that my dad bought in 1946 (as soon after the war as possible). I have a Marbles Tang Sight on it and IMO it's the way to go. I'm still using the original front sight with it, one advantage the tang sight has over most other peep sights, which usually require a taller front sight. OK, always, IME. The '46 version takes a different tang sight than later guns, but the good folks at Marbles can tell you which one you need. I've had this setup for some years now so may be remembering it wrong, but I think that one hole had to be d&t'd in the tang: it already had one but needs two. I really like tang sights on lever guns--they give you a really long sighting plane.I am looking to put a peep sight on an older Marlin 39-a. I believe it was made in 1946. Skinner sight will not fit, as there is only 1 screw hole in the top of the receiver. Any recommendations as to what sight will work?
