Peep sight for marlin 39-a

I am looking to put a peep sight on an older Marlin 39-a. I believe it was made in 1946. Skinner sight will not fit, as there is only 1 screw hole in the top of the receiver. Any recommendations as to what sight will work?

Just got an older 39A. Everyone I have talked to recommends the Lyman 66 MC. But have had no luck locating one. Williams also makes a model for the 39A.

A Williams 39 FP/tk. It mounts using the two mounts on the left side of the receiver.
Make sure you order an knobbed extended elevation screw and a knobbed giblock screw.

Williams is the easiest and with the additional OLeveraction mentioned very hard to beat. I have the Redfield 75 for a Remington target rifle on several of my levers as they are heavy and solid and very repeatable if you are constantly moving the sights around - like Lever Action Silhouette shooting.

Gary is absolutely correct on the current pricing. Many are at $175, and more for a Redfield. I’ve searched and not come up with much, and Williams has been out of stock. Far cheaper to drill and tap for a regular top mount scope (all the purists and collectors will cringe).

The base on the sight Merlin1 posted is made for a winchester 513. It will fit the 39A and works on the red field receiver sight. I bought one from an individual who was making them. Perfect fit. If I can find the web site I will post it. I suggest google search.

I have a Marlin 39A that my dad bought in 1946 (as soon after the war as possible). I have a Marbles Tang Sight on it and IMO it's the way to go. I'm still using the original front sight with it, one advantage the tang sight has over most other peep sights, which usually require a taller front sight. OK, always, IME. The '46 version takes a different tang sight than later guns, but the good folks at Marbles can tell you which one you need. I've had this setup for some years now so may be remembering it wrong, but I think that one hole had to be d&t'd in the tang: it already had one but needs two. I really like tang sights on lever guns--they give you a really long sighting plane.

FWIW, I went with the Marbles over the Lyman tang sight 'cuz it's adjustable for both windage and elevation, whereas the Lyman is adjustable for elevation only. OTOH, the Lyman is cheaper and can be adjusted for windage with shims, so it might be the better alternative for you. Even though the Marbles is windage adjustable I don't really change the windage once it's set.
