PayPal users BEWARE

Seller requested I use PayPal which I did for $8,700 on 4 Nov 2011. On 5 Nov 2011, PayPal sent me a notice my payment through their system was denied because I exceeded my sending limit. I therefore paid by check which was cashed on 14 Nov 2011. My credit card statement ending 17 Nov 2011 which I recieved in the latter part of Nov 2011 showed PayPay took the money from my account on 4 Nov 2011! The person received a double payment and to date, this person has not delivered. PayPal, in my opinion owes me for the money they said they didn't take out of my account. The person I am dealing with owes me the $8,700 paid by check or must provide me the services for wihich I paid which is a separate matter. Meanwhile, PayPal said the matter on their side would be resolved within 10 days from the time I contacted them but all I got was a form letter saying they were looking into the matter. Pretty simple on their side. They took the money from my account when they said they didn't. I want it back. I will never deal with them again.

Hedditch,
WOW!!! you mean to tell me your out $17400 and you have absolutely nothing to show for it?...Got screwed twice by two separate outfits?....That's the worse loss I think I have ever heard of, I sure wish you the best of luck recovering it!
Wayne.

Hi John,

PayPal is owned by Fleabay that where their anti-gun views come from. I use it sometimes because thats all I know of to use like that.

Hedditch,

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Loosing that kind of money could bankrupt alot of people . Goodluck in getting your money back and or the services you were looking to recieve.

I am sorry for you, it happened with me also a few months ago. For almost $3,000.00. Same story. Never did fix it... I went to my bank and they helped me get my money back, any way most of it..

They need to be put out of Business, for such a thing as that..

I would contact local law enforcement where the seller lives and/or the same in California where PayPal headquarters. If the item was on a web site, contact the administrator.

I quit using Paypal three years ago after hackers emptied my bank account using Paypal. My bank covered the loss and worked out the solution with Paypal.
I tried to delete my Paypal account and they will not do so unless I provide my current banking information.....sure you know that ain't gonna happen. Good Luck
with the most corrupt company on the Planet in my opinion.

A friend had a similar experience with PayPal 2 years ago, came close to losing $4500. The only way he got it back was after his local bank, that held the account, went to work for him.

Prior to that he was a firm believer in PayPal. Not anymore! >:(

Thanks for the information. Never had a clue PayPal was anti-gun or a problem. Have used them many times with no issues at all.

Good luck with your losses. Man I hope they get it right for you.

I've been a PayPal user since 1999. Yes, 13 years. I hear all kinds of stories like this, but my personal experience has been positive. I've had a few encounters that I had to file claims and PayPal sided with me and my money returned. I also had an eBay incident where I sold a mint condition Palo Saprani accordion for $800. The buyer received it and claimed damage. He immediately filed a claim with PayPal for a partial refund to settle. I wasn't going to give in. I then filed a claim with UPS for shipping damage. UPS contacted the buyer and it turns out he discarded the packing. Now it came down to the buyer to provide PayPal proof of a shipping label to show he is returning the item. He had a time frame to do so. Needless to say the time frame expired and PayPal sided with me and unfroze my account. I'm guessing the sole intent of the buyer was to get some of his money back and filed the claim just for the fun of it!

The moral of the story is, there is 2 sides to every story and 99.9% of the time, you always hear the bad side. I've been using PayPal this long and will continue to do so. Its a very good system that is secure and very convenient. I have a separate free checking account that is linked with PayPal, so my personal account is never in jeopardy of being froze or withdrawn to satisfy a charge back or something. I'm not saying none of this never happened or a totally trouble free system...I'm saying that familiarize yourself with PayPal and how it works. Read the fine print.

Hedditch...first off, you need to file a claim with PayPal to get your money back. Most likely, you will get it back. It takes time for them to review your case. Secondly, if the money was taken from your credit card, you are backed by them as well. As for PayPal and sending limits, you can view this right when you log into PayPal.

I don't think Paypal/Ebay are anti-gun out of a left-winged bent but more as a liability they don't want to deal with especially with our sue happy court system.

It's a very small segment of their total business and surely the highest liability department next to maybe asbestos tiles and bulk arsenic Lol.

Even lefty corporate types won't lose profit over ideology these days.... especially a mindless corporation where the higher ups get paid on performance. And Ebay still sells thousands of shooting related items just no parts that can be used to kill people.

Of course I could be wrong and those Kalifornia folks are willing to promote their agenda regardless of cost/profit and have their accountants and shareholders look the other way but my cynical side says the bottom line usually prevails.

I also have used Paypal for about 15? years and have 360 perfect transactions and the one bad one was made whole by Paypal even though the buyer was a creep. If your not internet savvy I could see where you could be duped but it's the same thing for any internet transaction or online banking and even my credit card info was stolen 3 times to boot along with my checking account being hacked.
I Luv Paypal for it's overall safety and ease of use!

Also...if you did file a claim with PayPal...you can log in and check the status. You can also upload documents to build your side of the case is applicable.

It has been my understanding that PayPal does give to anti-gun orgs like the Brady group and the sort.. It is why I have never used them.. kinda like why don't use Ebay either..

i) ammunition, firearms, or certain firearm parts or accessories, or (j) ,certain weapons or knives regulated under applicable law.
To many grey areas for me
Also had my account frozen because some # hole changed his mind 10 working days after delivery ?,( I allways use Tracking on shipping)
and wanted me to eat the shipping.

I was resolved in my favor after about a month but could have gone the other way

You are at the mercy of the buyer and pay pal that is not right.
No more PP or E bay selling for me.

I avoid Paypal like the plague.... Their policies don't work for me... Didn't know about their political activism.

I would give my credit card company a call and start the process of disputing the charge. It is then equally incumbent upon Paypal to justify the charge as it is upon you to justify your position. Kind of an "equal footing."

Did you send the money as a "gift" in order to get around Paypal's policies, or did you send it as a payment on a purchase? That could make a difference....

I hope it turns out well for you, nothing worse than getting screwed.

I have filed a claim with PayPal and with my credit card company. My complaint with PayPal is they sent me a notice I exceeded my sending limit dening my payment on 5 Nov after they had already removed the money from my account on 4 Nov. That is not right. Anyway, we will see what happens. For those of you using PayPal without problems, good for you. I can say I have done my last transaction with them. Yes, I am attempting to still work with the person who so far has not provided the service for which he was paid. If I do not receive satisfaction I will contact an attorney and his employer. This isn't over yet. Thank you everyone for your kind words. I will let everyone know how this works out with PayPal.

I use PP for piddly purchases but can't fathom using it for anything over $300 or so. Ain't nothing I need in the gun world bad enough to honor a seller's request to do so.

Is a Hippocrate a big box you ship your hippopotamus in?

Here's another view, OP gets his automated email from PP telling him the charge is over a limit.
The NEXT DAY they overturn their decision and process the funds. Problem avoided, right? Nope.

If OP stops right here and checks with PayPal before sending a personal check, problem avoided. If OP checks his bank balance, problem avoided.

It's not a perfect world. There are Bad People (in this case, not PayPal) out there who do this as a business. Gotta take control, look after your business and cover all the angles.......good luck.
