PayPal just froze my account

It's limited because I used Paypal to purchase bullets from extremeaccuracy.net. Can you believe it? Bullets have their own category on eBay & some yoyo freezes accounts because they think bullets are ammunition. I got a hold of them by phone. But the girl says I have to go through certain channels, starting with emailing an appeal. It’ll take days. And I trust them with access to my bank account.

In laymans terms, "Pap Pal Sucks"!! Try to close your account and see how far you get. Tried to get a Ultra Sonic cleaner. Finally gave up. My credit card wouldn't go through, no matter how hard I tried. Try to get a straight answer from them.
"In your dreams"!! Pap Pal can "bite me"!! JMHO. Mike.

Strange, I guess it all depends who looks at the account. I've purchased bullets from Extreme recently using PP without a hitch.Paypal you either love it or hate it. I've been using it for almost 5 years without a single problem, close to 500 successful transactions, I love it.

Mike, was your account "verified"? If not, this could be the reason or maybe the seller did not accept credit cards as payment.

Mike

Mike. The credit card had been used numerous times before. They know my name, my email address, my credit card number,my pass word, etc. Gave up trying to get a straight answer. Finally figured out it wasn't worth the trouble anymore. Couldn't even close the account and start over.
Make a donation to this site? Cut a check! Nice and easy. Worked for me! Ca$h works good too.
And when PayPal screws with your account because you try to get something firearms related, who needs them. Not me, thats for sure. But like I said, JMHO. ;) Mike

A couple times a week there’s a scam Paypal email in my box. I nearly deleted this notification that my account was limited because it looked so plan. But my name was on it. So I logged in and there it was. No adding or taking funds from the account.

Get this. You can not close a Paypal account while it is limited. You can not drop a confirmed bank account or a credit card that you tied to your Paypal account either. It doesn’t sound legal. But the person I spoke to, who told me there were no superiors there to talk to, says that’s the way they do it. She assured me that there’s no way anyone can add or withdraw funds from my account till this is resolved.

I ain’t going to cut off my nose to spite my face. Dropping Paypal if you use eBay is almost like dropping XP because you don’t like Microsoft. There isn’t much of a choice. But I’ll tell you what. As soon as I can the only thing that’ll be tied to my account will be a Paypal credit card. So if someone gets in Paypal’s going to eat it. And Paypal just went onto my family’s companies that it’s OK to screw over list. Right along with cell phone companies, with their false advertising, and some PC gaming companies.

Mike is probably right. It most likely depends on who looks at your account and I got a newbie. But there is no excuse for this kind of thing to go through on just one person’s mistake. They’re too lax and incompetent to be handling money out there in cyber space.

Bill,

I won't use Pay Pal unless it's the absolute last resort.

I have one credit card that I use only for Pay Pal, nothing else. About a year and a half ago my account got hacked and I ended up with a bunch of false charges, which I didn't have to pay thankfully). To this day Pay Pal swears it couldn't have possibly been hacked at their end. I don't believe them so I don't use Pay Pal if I can help it.

Won't use Paypal, Won't use E-bay.
Complete anti-gun socialists and I won't give them buisness because of it.

I look at it this way, if I can support the firearms industry on a whole by paying using Paypal so be it. I also belong to the NRA and contribute to the "NRA Roundup" everytime I make a purchase at Midway or Brownells.

Unless you produce your own fuel, grow all your own food, make your own clothes, do not have an automobile, nor car, nor health insurance or telephone, you are most likely supporting anti-gun groups more evil than Paypal.

Safety Tip

Regardless of how legit they look, DON'T EVER log directly into a Paypal or eBay account from a link that arrived in an email. That's how scammers,Phishing) compromise most accounts.

They just sent me this that shows you can’t use Paypal to buy or sell bullets. No longer is it my extremeaccuracy.net order, as they originally said. But an eBay sale from a month & a half back. WTF:

Thank you for contacting PayPal regarding the status of your account.

Thank you for making the necessary changes to your website in order to comply with PayPal's Acceptable Use Policy. After a recent review of your account, we have found that you are no longer in violation. We appreciate your cooperation in resolving this matter. In the future, if you have any

I recall seeing a thread on AR-15 that was referring to a new online payment system that was basically the same as paypal that is pro-gun and would allow payment online for guns and anything related. It was called Gear something.

That is why I quit using them. Pay Pal is mare a pain than a help.

I also will not patronize a "business" that cannot accept credit cards on their own..

Anyone who's paypal only never gets a dime of my money.

There are a thousand companies out there that offer credit card processing and charge much lower rates than Paypal does. Only catch is the owner of the business has to have good credit. Which generally means someone is responsible.

I own a business, been accepting credit cards for 20yrs. It's nearly painless to get it set up.

Most businesses that only accept paypal are web based only, where it takes very little capital or credit to get going. I'm not saying all or any of these businesses are bad. But... I personally don't recognize them as legit unless they've got their own merchant account and can accept credit cards direct.

The other catch with Paypal is you can't file a chargeback on your credit card without breaking their user agreement.

File a chargeback and Paypal can't recover from the seller..... they come after you.

BETTER READ YOUR AGREEMENT.

A chargeback is when you bought something, paid for it with a credit card and it didn't come as advertised or didn't come at all. You don't get satisfaction from Paypal because the seller is a deadbeat, has no money in his account, they cannot pull money from your bank account without specific permission for EACH transaction... a chargeback is a separate transaction. So you call your CC company and they give you your money back and charge the "vendor" Paypal.

OR you sold something to someone, he gets it, claims he didn't or claims it's not as you said it was. And then had his credit card company cancel the transaction, which then "pulls" the money from the sellers,or transaction company "paypal"'s) account.

The net effect is, you sell something.. buyer says he didn't get it or whatever else. You prove he got it, then he says well yeah I got it but it wasn't as advertised.... Paypal will take the money from your account,if you have any). The guy gets your stuff and his money back. OR paypal agrees with you so the guy files a chargeback with his credit card co. He gets his money back, he has no money in his paypal account so paypal comes after you!!!!! You have no merchandise and now paypal wants you to "reimburse" them for their loss.

It's against paypals user agreement for any "member" to file a chargeback on a credit card transaction. HOWEVER, if the other guy breaks the rules they can come after you. It's in the agreement and it happened to me. I told them to get screwed. They turned me over to collections and I had to get the state banking commission involved to make it go away.

Also you have to read the agreement very carefully.... their "insurance" has a ton of "conditions" that when a deal goes sour can be very hard to comply with. Especially on transactions that are over $250.

Also, many people buy and sell things through paypal that are not allowed.... if you are on either end of such a transaction and there's a problem.... if the other guy says well I sold him "porn" or I sold him "ammo" or hi-cap mags...even if he didn't, you just lost your case.

Paypal is being sued by a number of states and has been under investigation by the Feds for "subverting banking laws". Paypal is not a bank, but they do business just like one... they don't want to be a "bank" because then their operations are regulated.... in other words they can't pull the crap they're pulling. Many states are trying to force paypal to to abide by those states banking laws, set aside reserves, protect deposits etc.

Also IF they were a bank, they couldn't put limits on how you spend your money... what you buy with it etc.

Paypal is convenient, they can run their business however they want. They'll never get a nickel from me again.

And their customer service is a nonexistant joke. Looking back on it, I can't believe I ever spent money with them in the first place.

Guys,

Thanks for the information on the GearPay.com option. We have employed PayPal.com to receive donations, but we are also happy to get a simple check in the mail.

If the GearPay alternative works, and they can handle overseas clients, we'll see if we can put that in place on the site.

Getting a standard merchant account is another option, but one that could cost us $700/year or more in account fees. Right now the PayPal system, for donations) has not recurring fees.

Hi i will not use Pay Pal as others i know have had a lot of trouble and this sometimes makes it a bit hard as i am in Australia and i am ordering from the US what i have done if the company like Stillar's does not take Credit cards is send a US money order buy air mail to them and get the product sent when the money order arrives it adds about 1 week to get it there but it means there is no trouble as the funds arrive in full and the product can be sent. So even if you dont have a credit card and live in the US just send a Money Order it is a lot safer as they have tracking numbers and it takes me less than a week to get it to the US sif you are already there it should be faster.

The front page of Gear Pal says that no overseas transfers is this correct or has it been changed?

Cheers Bill
Australia

I use PayPal when buying stuff on Ebay from overseas as it is easy and i have had no problems with any transactions.
Dealing local i can do an Internet transfer.
Dealing with Sinclair's,Harrell's,Bruno`s etc not a problem as my VISA card is excepted.
Just a pity we can`t get the equipment like barrels,Brass, actions etc out of the country as easy as it is to get payment in.
