Panda short vs long action

Got a panda long action in the shop today... interesting that the shorts are coned bolt and the longs are flat face. Just curious if there's any reasoning behind that?

Hey Aaron. I have a Kelbly long action Atlas and wanted them to make an additional bolt and they would only make the long action bolt flat. That does't answer your question but does show some consistency in Kelbly coned bolts for short actions and flat for long actions.

Once you get used to coned bolts it's hard to go back to the flat ones. Easier to build but much less elegant to use...

Short action was originally designed to feed PPC's and 223's. Long action is for larger, longer cartridges.

Edit The short actions weren't always coned.

That’s what I was wondering if the cone is for short and skinny cartridges.
