Palma barrel life

what kind of barrel life do you guys average with the regular 155 loads (2950-3050fps). Just wondering when I should start to doubt off call shots as something other than me. Please don't include the FTR with 185-210+ data, it doesn't really apply to me.

I haven't shot one out yet.
At the Berger SWN I took my rifle over to the Hawkeye tent and had a look.
With 1800 rounds it looked very good. Just barely a hint of fire cracking and only in the 1st half inch or so. My loads have all been 155s of various flavored on top of enough Varget to propel them to 3010.
Barrel is a Kreiger .298/.3075.
I figure it will make 4000 easily.
And no I didn't win the Hawkeye.

Thanks for the input Wes. I was kind of hoping for around 4k, i've heard that number before, but recently heard far lower?

I usually walk away empty handed from there also, but have won a discount certificate once! Although i've done well at the bullet table! love that Berger match, really sad they stopped the XTC match.

Friends of mine state "why buy a hawkeye, you can buy two barrels for the same price, just put a new tube on" almost makes sense to me.

When I was shooting back in the '90s.....seems like the better Palma shooters would change barrels when they stopped shooting Xs!! 1200-1500 rounds sticks in my mind!! ::) ::)

I'd throw a B.S. flag on that one... I've had multiple barrels that I pulled at 2800-3000rds that were still shooting good X-counts... on the F-Class target. These were 30" 1-12" twist barrels with an Obermeyer chamber running B155VLDs and B155.5BTs @ 2950-3050fps. Only pulled them because I'd rather do it before they started going down hill in a match on me; still sitting in the rack for practice use, etc.

I had actually heard the 1500 number before and that is what prompted my posting. I think it was from when most people shot the 190's though so that might have a part in swapping out earlier? I've always heard around 4k for 155's.

4000, at least. Im seeing Krieger .298 barrels going 6000 and still shooting 200/200 cleans at 1000 yards.
I have yet to meet anyone that had one go south at 1500 round count, unless maybe something was wrong with it or they damaged it cleaning or something.
I dont think you need to freat any. My 6.5X284 will get that many rounds....
