Palma barrel bore abnormalities

Does anyone know what is going on in the bore of my barrel? New barrel with 393 rounds on it since January. Whatever those marks are start in the last 6” before the muzzle and you can feel it with a tight patch or brush. There are 7 to 10 patches of whatever it is in a 2-3” section of barrel.

Thanks- David

Contact the Barrel Maker .
I am not a name dropper ,but second Button Rifle Barrel story in 3 days.
Short life on two barrels from the same place ?

Hey Blair- It was acting weird at Butner on Friday with a lot of vertical. I cleaned it again and it shot a little better Saturday. 147-5x in team match with two out the right for wind and a 12oclock 9.
I cleaned again when I got home and was surprised to see that in the bore.

It definitely looks raised to me but I don’t know what I’m looking at. It starts 4.5” from the muzzle and goes back 6.5” on all sides of the bore. The rest of the barrel looks great.

What kind of time period is needed for the copper/moisture to start showing the corrosion?
I think it depends on the humidity level (carbon deposits absorb moisture, high humidity prevents it from drying out), also the acidity level left by the primer residue

Thanks to all! There is a ton of knowledge and information on this site and I appreciate you sharing it.

I agree with the others, that's pitting and the light is playing some tricks. Something got left in that barrel and it corroded. Bad news especially if it shot well before.

Looks like what i see with Rust pitting. As long as its not on the crown i have had barrels still shoot lights out just as it did before. Get it out at the last inch or so... seems like that will be the end of the rifle shooting well anymore.

The moly cvomment was about how it attracts and captures moisture so you can get pitting pretty easy with moly in high humid locations like the south.
