Both myself and a friend picked up a savage model 10 with the 5r barrel a few months ago. I am a savage fan and a 308 fan so off we go through our normal break in. It appeared that these rifles both like 150 gr bullets in fact all of the 150 and 165-168 gr bullets will drop in around a 1/2 inch or so at the 100 yd. range. rl-15 ,varget 4895, 8208xbr. Yesterday we decide we are going to work on hunting loads for this fall deer season. It seems that both of these rifles shoot best with bullets seated .005-.010 off the rifling (sinclair tool) . the only difference is his rifle has a slightly longer throat . around .025 longer than mine. We grab the chrony off to the bench 150gr accubonds 44 gr 8208xbr lapua brass fed 210 . His first 5 shot group mv were 2944,2956,2933,2930,2919. Better velocity than I expected. No pressure signs all is well. Here is what I found perplexing. I shoot the identical load in my rifle and 5 shot mv are 2799,2813,2856,2836,2808. what is hard for me to understand is in theory his bullets are seated further out(longer throat) and in my mind should increase case volume. I was expexcting the opposite mv. seems to me seating the bullets deeper would decrease case capacity and result in higher pressures and hugher mv.Perhaps someone could shed some light Thanks in advance.......Huntrrr
