Pair firing in the USA

I would like to start a conversation about this.. I talked to a few people that count at the Canada worlds about our lack of familiarizing with this way. Several good suggestions of incorporating it in our matches. My best idea would be to have 2 man team matches at regionals and State events. I would like to hear match directors suggestions.

I’m not a match director, but I would be all for it takes away from people waiting on a certain wind condition. It would make it a little harder on folks but in the end I also think it would make better shooters overall.

Not a director but shoot around 15 matches a summer. NOT in favor. So many people like talking about "changing the game", well this will definitely do that...

Keep it the way it is. Heck, half the firing points can't hold one comfortably.

You did not specify the type of competition.

Mike, the F-Open community at large may have you drawn and quartered for such a suggestion. I love the format, it completely eliminates the rapid fire, how fast can my puller get the target back up shooting, and requires you to read wind and make wind calls. It also eliminates the need for delays with e-targets as you have to wait for your partner to shoot.

and

I personally plan to continue to shoot in international competitions so more experience is better for me as far as I'm concerned. I've made it a point to shoot the Sinclairs for the last three yrs. I haven't made SoA in 2 yrs, but I'm trying to figure out how to get back there, and I'm going to be shooting several matches in Canada next yr, and they all shoot that way.

Put me down as a fan.

I do find it interesting that by and large the F-TR shooters that I talk with like the format, but more often than not the people that have strong dislike of it are Open guys.

It wouldn't be changing it. It would be shot the way it was meant to be.

If it went to pair firing, you wouldn't see some of the scores you see now. Some feelings would be hurt for sure.

Matt, how is it not changing from what is currently being shot in the USA? This topic is designed to discuss change.

I enjoy the way WE shoot currently. This is one aspect of our shooting I want to remain.

Once again, just my thoughts.

I'm not suggesting changing the way matches are shot but having the Friday 2 man team matches use this to keep us familiar with this way of shooting. It does eliminate the need for a score keeper and puts 2 pulling.

I don’t think completely removing string shooting and replacing it with pair firing will ever happen, not should it. But adding it in to some matches is a great idea. It can only help the US become better as a team. My only concern would be the firing points. Butner is big enough for it, not all ranges are. But that shouldn’t stop it from becoming more popular. I’ve always like team shooting and was always disappointed at the number of shooters that would hold out from shooting team matches.

I must have read more into it. I can completely understand that mentality.

Just a comment from a Canadian who shoots in the US frequently. The US style allows you to get higher scores in the matches but the International style is more challenging as we also have only 45 seconds to get off a shot or you will be warned by the Range Officials who do look out for people trying to stop for conditions. Sometimes we shoot 3 to a target and then every shoot is essentially a sighter. 2 or 3 shooters to a target brings out the best skills in wind reading. The International style does has it's advantages and if anyone does want to shoot outside the US then it is a style that you should be familiar with. As with the US style, it is fun!! And you can learn a lot.

Great, we're getting lectured by another pompous-ass condescending Canuckian. What is this world coming to?;)

However, in preparation for the FCNC and FCWC some of us at Bayou were practicing getting our shots off within the 45 second timeframe, with (in my case) the attendant drop in score. We could not institute pair firing as it would disrupt the line and most shooters on that line were not going to Connaught and wanted to better their ratings and pursue national records.

So it was up to the individual.

Also to get the full effect of pair firing, you need to inject the random shooter who disagrees with your scoring or the other one who ignores your shots or better yet, writes them down wrong and so on.

Tell me the Ukraine team didn’t do that...
