Pacific Tool and Gauge Custom shop remington 700

Anyone dolling out participation prizes to fools still buying at PT&G , my last order of supposedly in-stock items took 11months !!!.No responses to e-mail, crap service, wouldn't recommend to anyone.
I've made several purchases from PTG this year with no problems. Reamer, head space gauges, reamer bushings, firing pin assembly's, ext. Many weren't in stock or needed touched up. Longest wait was 4-8 weeks .. ...........guess I'm a lucky fool......

FYI
After you order, call Parkwest, the former Remington Custom Shop in Sturgis to ask them to finish the chamber before shipping it. They did mine free. Here's the number: 605-490-0705. You may have to leave a message.
Actually, our number is (605) 702-0060. You have one of our employees personal numbers posted.

What is the quality of the actions being sold with barrels. It is stated that they come from the custom shop. That would indicate that they are machined to a much closer tolerance and everything has been squared.

I bought one of their custom shop actions and it is hard to believe how well machined the one I have is done. Open the bolt, and there is so little movement that it is almost indiscernible.

And by the way, in the last two weeks, the actions have risen in price $125.00. I bought mine at $535.00 and I am about to order another.

Question: Are you sure were “worked over” or could they be from the pile they were going to get to someday? I have read that they were “short chambered” which leads me to believe they were waiting to be worked on when the company folded.

I would think that they were short chambered because they were probably threaded and chambered on a CNC to speed up the process, then finished chambered by an individual to get the tollerances correct. The machining on the actions is maticulus. Just as good as some of the custom actions I have put together for customers. I remember where LRI had a contract with the custom shop to true up the actions.

They sell them in a number of ways. What I bought is just the action and bolt along with that terrible Remington trigger. They also sell a barreled action which is considerably cheaper I'll bring it along when I come your way so you can check it out. I believe the custom shop is still in business under a new owner and is still turning out products.

i got two of the barreled actions in stainless magnums. they were short chambered and the machining is very good on them. Wish i would have got a couple with 308 bolt face to.

They just pick their receivers off the 700 line, no difference. I don't know why the are short chambered as they are hammer forged. Maybe the bolts that aren't with them in some cases is the reason.

These are not factory barrels, factory barrels are hammer forged.
I am going to call Parkwest Arms and find out for sure tomorrow about the barrels and the actions.

Bought my first Rem 700 in 1972 in 7mm magnum. Had the barrel removed and bought a Hart stainless blank and had it chambered in 7mm/300Wby by Pete at Cleveland custom gun. Made a stock out of a 4 inch thick walnut in woodshop, benchrest style. I had been reading about the Drummond brothers out of PA that were shooting groundhogs past 1000yds. I lived in Ohio and wanted to do the same thing, thats when I decided machining was going to be my field of expertise. Have been into it since.
Thanks for the son compliment. Butch, You are well respected around here. Sorry to get off topic.
