Pac-Nor Barrels Plant Destroyed in Fire

This is indeed a sad thing, and a loss to the custom barrel market. I own one of their barrels and love it. Planed with keeping any future business with them.

It is a small world out here in the west, and a couple months ago I made a delivery to a fella who makes barrel liners. In chatting with him he mentioned that the owner of PacNor was a good friend of his. They had worked together on stuff over the years, and he had nuthin but good to say about those folks. jd
I agree, I have one barrel now and have or had one all done with a custom reamer, just waiting for one of their muzzle brakes to be put on.And another barrel ordered for my Ruger RPR. MY action I sent in to be fitted with the one all done had a new trigger. I guess I'll have to start over and I sure pray they will too. We need these guys.

Wow, That is Just Horrible. So glad no one was hurt. I wish them all the best. I've been doing business with them for so many years. I consider Chris, his son & Don my friends. Mike in Ct

So, I wonder...How much heat would an action take before it was rated, "gone"?
Its the springs in guns that are the victim of fires. They will just crumble. If nobody was there the actions would be locked away in a safe so they just lost machinery and im sure theyll scrap the inventory

Dammit, hope everything turns out for them and those who had equipment there...they were a great supplier.

I keep thinking about what has happened and feel a great loss. Brookings is a very special place. They have lost a great asset to their community. I pray that all of the people at Pac-Nor will be okay and feel their sorrow. It's not just the shooting community but everyone has lost a great deal with this fire.

Sad news. Great company, great people. Glad everybody got out, damage contained.

What bothers me most is this maybe could have been prevented?

Turn off the power at the breaker before doing anything with equipment wired for it.

I feel for those who have now lost their income. There aren't a lot of resources in that area to draw from for an income.
My prayers and good wishes go out to everyone at Pac Nor. Heck of a way to go into the Winter and the Holiday seasons.

Wooooow. I put an order of 16 barrels about 1 month ago. And 2 days ago they called me to notify me my barrel for a 6mm ppc was getting rifled. I already paid half of all the order..

Not making light of anything here, but the headline: "Severe fire completely damaged . . . ." left me puzzled, especially since the accompanying photo shows most of the building is already gone. "Damaged" usually means some degree of degradation to an object, person, etc. "Completely (like death) means total. The headline is probably not wrong, but it is an odd mixing of words and sloppy journalism.

So relieved that no one injured. Like a traffic accident, vehicles (and anything in them) can be replaced, a human life cannot. Wishing the company a speedy recovery. They do make an excellent barrel.

Honest / accurate Journalism has been dead for a long time in this country

Sad to see this "tragic accident" happen to a great company

Guys , this is a lesson I learned the hard way.... Go right now and check your insurance , they will not tell you , you are under insured... I lost everything in a forest fire and was so under insured it was a joke... Sit down with your agent and make d$mn sure your covered... Every once in a while video everything in your house and keep that video some where else.... This strikes home for me because I know even if you do everything you can think of it won't be enough , so do your best to do your best to make sure you're covered.... This can happen anytime to anyone... One minute I had everything and the next I was homeless with nothing but what I had when I went to Walmart and walked outside and saw the smoke... That 30 minutes changed my family's life forever....

I feel bad for all the employees. I hope there is some sort of assistance they can get to help them through.

The rifling process requires a ton of oil, petroleum distillates and volatile cleaners. These older plants are usually saturated from airborne atomized oil and other petroleum products.

This is awful awful news. Prayers definitely need to go out to not only Chris and his family, but the employee's families as well.

Another thing to keep in mind, is be patient if you have a barrel ordered or parts/actions/stocks etc with Pac-Nor. Give them some time to get everything sorted out.

Very sad to here.
Agree with above advise about shutting down power, and sitting down with your insurance agent EVERY YEAR!

Even with insurance and all, this just might do the company in and we will never see the likes of Pac-Nor again, as we know it. Time will tell. At least no one was injured or killed. Just property and a life time or works.
