Oven Baked Powder Coating Cast Bullets

I just tried this, as per Elvis Ammo on YouTube Vid. Only powder they had left at Harbor Freight was white, but I don't care. The method he uses is quick and dirty with very little handling, or time involved.

The bullets came out with a plastic coat that is durable enough to go through the Lee Sizer Die without scraping or chipping. I don't care much what they look like, just how they handle and shoot. This method is actually easier than liquid Alox lube, and waaayy faster than my Lyman 450 Lube-sizer. If they shoot without leading, I'm hooked.

Just get a Star sizer and live the good life... No top punch, the bullets are sized and go out the bottom. You only touch the bullet once. You can size them as fast as you can pull the handle..

And yes, liquid alox suuuuucks.... I used that, then RCBS sizer, finally went to a Star and can kick myself for not doing it sooner.. Get a Master Caster if you shoot a lot of pistol. It really helps production and fatigue.

I have one but for the price of a Star sizer and dies you can get the Lee bullet sizer's for every caliber you use which you only have to touch the bullet once when placing on the punch. They size from the nose down being pushed into the die by the pinch pushing from the base of the bullet and then it pops into the little container on top of the die. In the money saved you can do a BUNCH more shooting.

I'd like to hear how this works out also. I have a large amount of 9MM 120 grain cast TC bullets that running through through the luber/sizer puts lube almost every place except the lube groove. Mine is an RCBS model, everything else I've run through it works like a charm, but these 9MMs are kicking my ass. I need to find another method, powder coating looks like it could be the answer.

I just loaded these up last night, and gotta say that they are waayy nicer to handle than Alox lubed. It was also easier, quicker, and less messy to do than Alox.

By all accounts, we could push these bullets harder than conventional lube method. I haven't tried yet, so correct me if anyone has.

I'mma gonna go shoot some today to check them out. These nines for me are pretty much steel clangers, so I want to keep it as quick and simple - and inexpensive as possible. This powder coat method is a step in that direction. jd

I've powder coated cast for years. Even went to harbor freight and got the little powder coating gun. I really like it, good way to keep shooting during dry spells. Started with hf powders and started buying off eBay. Got into jighead casting and have all sorts of colors now. I like to find the wet style finish, really makes your bullets feel slick, I assume that helps some in keeping pressures even.

the blotchy white makes them look very much like age corroded bullets stored in horrible conditions, but I LIKE.....!

Sure to get a comment from somebody at the range, then you can tell'em some BS story about them being some 60+ year old stuff from an unknown source and therefore unpredictable and potentially dangerous. So please stay the heck back just in case!!
