Oval Chamber? Crooked Chamber?

Would say, a PTG reamer that always picked up chips on one flute do this? - I just did a 6 dasher (First time doing a 5R barrel) and the body came out egg shaped. Less than a thou of runout but it is shaped like an egg. Neck and throat area indicate true. Machine and other reamers chamber without problem.

I flipped the reamer and holder over 180 degrees at one point and the same flute picked up all the chips on the other side. Shoulder/neck area seemed to cut evenly.. just a problem with the body.

I'll put the reamer in a vice tomorrow and run an indicator around it to see, but my mind was wandering before bed and found this thread.
5r

Yeah. I've been to Gordy's classes and he talks extensively about 5R - Egg shaped runout never came up but I guess anything is possible.

Re chambering Rem factory barrels can be a real head banger with bore not centered in the barrel, sweeping, and chambered crooked.

Ah. Similar. I'm indicating in two places in front of where the shoulder would be. Mark high spot. Drill. Bore. Chamber. Clock. Crown. shoot.

Chalk another one up to the never ending mountain of bad experiences with PTG Reamers. We should all know better by now! Lol

Similar but all are not the same. It doesn’t matter what method you use. What matters is do they shoot? I have changed my method a few different ways so far, the more you learn the more you think and the method changes

I think every method can produce a good shooting barrel. But some methods produce less average shooting barrels. I will get the flame suit on now ;)

After seeing your groups at 1000 yards with your new rifle, I'm only interested in your method. You could start a school, do a video, call it the Wheeler method.

As soon as he did somebody you never heard of would get on here and tell him hes wrong because thats not how he did the one barrel he chambered- and that barrel won an xtc match or something similar, and he would get 45 private messages telling him how they do it by folks too scared to put their method out here for scrutiny. We love revealing our methods!
