Outrigger Scope Extender

This is a duplicate posting from the "Scopes, etc". Forum

Ray-Vin makes a really great Outrigger Scope Extender for use while shooting prone. Unfortunately, this product is only available for use with a 1"post.

Is anyone aware of another manufacturer that offers a similar product for use on a 3/4" post?

Any and all information will be greatly appreciated

John

Good afternoon. We at Gearbuggy are always looking for something that the shooting community needs, or wants, that we can supply. I would consider making you almost anything that you can imagine, and make a sketch of. Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts and ideas. Best of luck, and have a great day. John,
You might consider this setup. It works great for me. Bogen 3011 tripod and 3265 ball head. I found mine on eBay for $100 for both. And the tripod is full size for spotting scope duties.

Another option: Manfrotto 055 or 190, with a 322 pistol-grip head. The 055 (shown) is probably a little too big in terms of footprint. Try to find one with four section legs instead of three - the individual sections are shorter, making a smaller footprint when retracted and lowered.

Call Gary Eliseo at Competition Shooting Stuff (gotxring.com). He makes a head that is extended and fits rods from 3/4" TO 1". If you have a 5/8" rod he will make one for that as well I am sure.

John, The above options will all work. If you don't already have a scope head but do have a 3/4" rod the Eliseo scope head will be tough to beat. It functions very well.

PM me if you have questions or are interested.

Thank you, one and all, for responding and for your very helpful suggestions - very much appreciated, indeed.

Obviously, the problem I was trying to address was that I have an existing base that is both sturdy and steady and which I like very much. Over the years it has worked very well on any surface no matter how rough or uneven. Unfortunately it does not allow me to position the scope close enough to the rifle without the legs from the base getting in the way.

So here's what I have done: I have retained the base and am having a 1" replacement pole machined to fit into the base. I have ordered a Ray-Vin Outrigger and, after talking with Gary, I am replacing my 3/4" "Pole Cat" head with an Eliseo head - it should work, if it doesn't I'll blame Keith (Cigarcop) who talked me into the Eliseo.... just kidding.....

Thanks Keith and thank all of you for responding...

John I wished you had PM'd me. ;) I have all of the above (minus the custom made Rod).

I've never used the outrigger and don't need it. I have also considered selling the Eliseo head which I've only had for maybe two months and has been to two matches.

Gary recommended I DON'T use the outrigger with his scope head as it will make the base unstable.

My findings mirrored his recommendations. The Eliseo head gives 5" of extension.

Me too... unfortunately all of these decisions were made prior to your post... no offense, and I do thank you for responding.

As for the stability issue -- that's why I like the base that I have been using... stability should not be an issue in the prone position......

Again,

Thanks,

John

!! None taken. I hope it all works out!

I got my Ray Vin with Out-Rigger on sale. I figured it wouldn't hurt to have, but quickly found it wasn't going to work for me in conjunction with the Eliseo.

I think you'll be happy when it's through and said.
