Otis 'Life Liner' Ceramic barrel coating

Saw this advertised in Rifle Magazine. Haven't heard a word about it anywhere else. Pretty interesting claims. Don't know that I would use it for any good barrel, but maybe it is the kind of thing to use on an old Springfield 1903 barrel or a pitted 22LR barrel. Anyone heard of it or real world experience?

Thanks!

Same question, for the same product was asked on this web site, "Advanced Gunsmithing & Engineering"/ Eternal barrel life, 8-14-08. See those responses.

It's not without precedent.

Back when I was drag racing, there was an internal engine coating with the trade name "Heanium" which was based on ceramics. It claimed to reduce friction and dissipate heat dramatically. My anecdotal observation was that it did have some effect in those two areas, but probably not to the extent that it was worth the cost. The inside of a barrel bore during firing has a lot in common with the combustion chamber of a gasoline powered dragster engine.

There is a saying among drag racers, that goes,"Them that run strong don't run long." Henium treated engines seemed to get a few more passes before having to be torn down. However, none of the drag racing superstars or major engine builders like Ed Pink or Keith Black adopted Heanium for regular use.

In theory, it should work to some extent. We should probably run an experiment with a control rifle an a test bed.
