Ordered Barrel

Well I ordered a 20 caliber 11 twist from Hart today. 14 weeks out. Having them send it to Bibs Machine in Greeley Co to set me up with a 20 cal for my #7 superior. Mo' Better will be Mo Betterer, a switch barrel!

I had ordered 500 20 VT brass from @High Plains Brass , but the sale never went thru, they are not responding to my email inquiring.

So, if it goes thru later, I will have Loren Lieder chamber it in 20 VT. If not, I have about 300 222 Lapua brass so i will find a loaner reamer and have it done in 20-222. I have time to decide. Loren did the barrel that is on it and assures me he doesn't need the rifle to put together another for me.

Since I bought 5000 bullets, I guess I NEED a barrel, right?

Since I survived Covid-19, time to celebrate a little. After this project I think its on to a little 17HM@ and maybe a 686 Smith.

That should conclude the need for rifles, lest the Redline bites.

Time to move on and finally finish the 67 Firebird that has been in my garage since 1986....

I'm thinking pure Poncho 400 CID power at about 500 HP, pump gas, , EFI, a five speed, discs and fat n skinnys...in Plum Mist, with parchment deluxe interior, original console and folding rear seat, thank you please. Loud enough to be be anti-social, fast enough to scare an old man, old enough to run off millenials, fun enough to ram around in and not be a trailer queen, reliable enough that it wont piss me off.

I thought about return to original, OHC Sprint 6, even have the engine and drive train. But it just isn't...enough....

I went down to pick up the nose section for my tractor the other day and went by an elementary school in Lantana Florida. I am sure that this happens many places in the USA. There was a line of at least 125 cars waiting to pick up there children. It was an unusually warm spring day and all the cars had their windows up so i can assume that the motors were running and the A/C was on. All of this was so the children didn't have to walk home from school. A generation that won't walk and parents that won't do with out the A/C all telling me how I am ruining the worlds climate. The same political mind set as these people has also refused to punish criminals and it is probably unsafe for these children to walk or ride their bike to school.

I heard someone say there are two kinds of people in the USA. Those that believe what other people want them to believe and those that use common sense and their intelligence to sort out the truth. I think that close to 50% of Americans are in the first group.

Went to the Hardware Store for a New Garden Hose, asked the Floor Man for a 3/4 Hose ? We can't sell 3/4 hoses any longer. I picked up a 5/8 hose and went to check out . I said to the check out Lady sad day now we can't have a 3/4 Garden Hose ! She replied just let it run longer .
Always a answer .

Only 2 boxes left, but they seem to make more on a regular basis. I bought 500 from them and am pleased.

Good to read you're on the mend. Years ago I would shoot the breeze with pontiac guys at local PA drag races. BSD & NR. They were running low 11s and high 10s with mild combinations. I say build it to run on 87 octane and drive it often!

Everyone has a big V8. The coolness factor of that Sprint 6 is off the charts!
Agree.
Straight 6 is a wonderfully balanced platform. And ‘original’ is always more cooler-er in classics...
Beyond that, just think of how pissed you’d be if your v8 swap got spooled by some dickweed in a Volvo...(wink)

Keep it real, snazzy 6 banger!

You are being way, way, way, too kind if you think that anywhere near 50% of American's use common sense and intelligence to do anything. "Sort out the truth", wow, I'm not even sure if 10% of Americans care the least bit about the truth. They are too self absorbed with "Like"s on twitchat. ( Don't get me wrong, you should feel free to "Like" this post if you want.;))

Snert, I'm with the retro group on the Firebird. If you want some extra giggles you could get a custom manifold made and get EFI for it. That should get it upwards of 300HP and maybe just a touch of NOS if you feel the need for speed. At least that way you don't have to change front springs, rear end, have a drive shaft made; do you really want to go there? I would think you'd want to start driving it, not building it for the next two years. We're not getting any younger you know.

Either way I have to build. I was headed down the OHC6 route, but I drove 2. Neither left me inspired, at all.

i still have the engine. In the mean time, it isn't a big deal to go with a 400. The trans is different, as is the clutch etc. But rear end in these are all same, only difference is mono leaf for Sprint, multileaf for 400. And the monos are shot, so I am stuck with multi anyhow. It currently has a 350 Poncho with the old 4 speed saginaw in it. Not enough trans for that motor.

Buiding a OHC 6 sprint is expensive as any 8. The motor mounts alone cost me $300. The cam was $500. And that is no motor machining, etc. All for??? 230 HP.

thanks, no

And Fredo....I cannot take your comment seriously. Tis coming from a twin turbo guy who builds a 224 caliber 4200 FPS GROUNDHOG gun? 400+ Cu inches and 500 + HP. that's where we are going.

Here is the Sprint 6 and the car as I shipped it into storage, again. The paint splotches are from the old laquer coming off, rattle canned. It is still solid all the way thru.

If he is going 5 speed it's almost guaranteed the entire driveline will be changed. Shaft will probably be the wrong length and it's 50 years old Just waiting to snap. Springs will be toast too. Might be able to salvage the rear housing. But it it takes oddball internals then even that will be swapped out.

I was being serious, LOL
Straight 6 is one of the very few engine configs that have ‘perfect’ primary & secondary balance. An engineering marvel, in its simplicity...
IMHO, the thing that makes your ‘Bird so cool IS that motor, and seems like some other petro-heads here agree? Sure, prolly ain’t gonna melt tires to your delight. But, are ya really restoring a classic to do that? Or, to take a nice cruise & get back to a more simple time where originality meant something?
Just my pennies. I definitely get the HP/$ logic of a v8. If that’s your goal, then do a proper reliable resto-mod & dump an LS in, 4L80 trans, Holley EFI, 9” Ford rear & custom suspension & subframe all around.
That’s what a guy with a 4200fps chuck rifle might do, LOL
But, that’d still be a distant 2nd choice to the original single cam 6cyl that the car was born with...
Heck, new grocery getters come with 300+hp nowadays. Just sayin, HP alone ain’t cool. A classic old car, rebuilt to original spec...THAT IS COOL!

It’s going to a hard to get “500” streetable HP out of a 400 CI Pontiac on pump gas without some coin, better yet I would do an LS conversion. However; on pure cool factor alone, I vote use the Sprint 6 with a supercharger and blow thru carb.
