Optimun lead for ELD-M 208

I have a older 8.5 twist barrel that I ran 215 hybrids in for FTR. The chamber was cut with a reamer that has .270 freebore. I shoot the 208 ELD-Ms in that barrel now and have about 2400 rounds on it so the throat has moved out a bit and is longer than .270 With the 208 jumping .030 it only has about 1/4 to 1/3 of the bullet shank being held in the neck. It's seated really long. I wouldn't go any longer than .270 with freebore length.

Going of off memory here....

Had a barrel with 0.170"ish freebore and with the 208amax/eldm COAL ended up around 2.950"ish. Magazine allowed up to 2.990" so 2.950" was perfect for that application. The boattail bearing surface junction was just above the neck shoulder junction.

Is the 208ELDM any good for ftr?Consistent to 1000y?

I've got a barrel that shoots them pretty fair at 1000 yards. I've never had a really calm day to see if the load is good enough to clean a target at 1000 yards but I did get one string in a match that was readable and shot 197-10X at 1000. I've cleaned a few targets at 600 with the load. Barrel has a lot of hard miles on it, I'm tempted to chamber a new barrel just for this bullet. I started testing these with this barrel after it had been run hard with 215s for a while.

31 inch barrel running 2630-2640 ish with Varget, throated very long (see my post above).

Jade, I'm not shooting them, (yet)..But from what I've seen on load development, practice, and for score at 600 and 1000 I like. Over the summer on our down time if things work out I'll have a barrel for them.
