Optics planet and vortex rings

I research a long time before I purchase, well I am neurotic about it! Today looking at rings for a possible new scope purchase, down the road! I passed across two sets of vortex rings that on the face value looked the same but vastly different prices, hummm? Wondering minds, well I began digging in thinking it was a pricing error,,, not so much slight differences in manufacturing the precision with which they are built! one is marked Precision and the other is markered Tactical! Precision costing $129 and Tactical costing $19 and a noob like me could get taken in! But could some one else eye this, are the $19 ones knockoffs?
I am not saying that they won't work but but to infringe on a company's name and reputation is another!

The precision ones are made by Seekins and are great rings and a good value for high end rings. The tactical rings are cheap rings and have a cheap price tag, likely made in Asia. Vortex sources their rings out and doesn't build them in house, these are 2 very different product at 2 very different price points.

I would guess you talking about the Precision Matched Rings for about a $129. MSRP versus the standard Tactical Rings for like $19.
The Precision Matched are kept together in pairs throughout the whole machining process they say for the best fitment.
Personally since all rings need lapped (minus the Burris XTR Sig. with insert) its a waste to spend that much in my opinion.
Personally, the cheaper Tactical ones are fantastic for the money. Of course I lap them using a lapping kit so, they mate up perfect on the scope body. They have not left any marks on my Sightrons or HSTs and hold perfect.
I also like the 6 screw caps versus the 4 screw and wider cap for a larger clamping area.
I guess its a matter of where you would rather spend your money but, I think its a waste to buy a Precision Matched ring only to lap it since it was never mated/matched to your scope.
No matter what rings you buy lapping is a must for fitment imho.

The Vortex/Seekins rings don't need to be lapped. They are very high quality, I have used and recommended them to other people. I wouldn't use the cheapo vortex's ever.

Sorry, I disagree a Scope ring unless its a insert style like the Xtr Sig. need lapped.
If you dont not lap how do you know is my philisophy. A few lapping strokes and you will know if your good or if more lapping is warranted.
I think most anyone will tell you that. :)
Btw, OP for $20 thats one ring not two so, its roughly $40. a set.
Done here and stand by what I stated.

That's good info on the 1ring vs a pair for $20, I didn't catch that. Burris is a better deal still!
