opinions vary but......

I was just at a chain sporting goods store @30miles from home waiting on our skates to get sharpend and wandered over to the hunting/fishing section to see a 700 remington being zipped into a case and the kid (maybe 20?) Was talking about how happy he would be with his new 30cal rifle. He went on to tell the fella purchasing the rifle how to properly clean his new rifle with a cleaning kit in hand how to properly clean and care for his rifle. Every one has their own way of doing things but its funny in a not at all funny way some peoples advice for others. He told rthe customer how he's a firearm "expert" and explained the best way to clean the bore. His sound advice was to save his money and not buy any kind of bore solvent but instead toput a drop of dawn dish soap on the patch and that would clean the bore better than any solvent. As he want on telling him how to brush and dry patch the bore and shouldn't need to repeat the proceedure because the soap works so well. I decided I should add my $.02 and at least suggest to try a solvent . By this time his partner classmate, coworker whatever shows up and agrees a solvent is a waste of time. I walked away saving argument since the customer said he was gonna do as the "firearms experts" suggest. I get pretty frustrated when I witness these acts. Kinda like getting auto parts from a chain store......that's a whole entirely different rant......

Usually its the salesman's job to sell as many accessories as possible, slings, scopes, solvents, brushes, etc. These guys suck!

kind of bore solvent but instead to put a drop of dawn dish soap on the patch and that would clean the bore better than any solvent.

You mean you've never tried that?

I thought it was common knowledge,

, in the backwoods of Appalachia.

I would have gone to a Manager, and told him his salesmen isn't selling much.

I wonder,, If that salesmen and his wife get a divorce,
Are they still cousins?

Stopped in a hardware store that had a few rifles this past week in WI. Over heard the counter guy trying to sell a Rem 700 VTR, he said "It stands for Vermont Type Rifle, designed for hunting in the brush"..

I busted up laughing my keister off and had to just walk away before I pissed my pants......

Hey necchi,I almost wet my pants laughing at your comment. Now thats priceless. I worked at Gander Mountain for 2 years and wanted to be in the gun sales area.We took a test and I scored highest so they put me in archery. Some of the nitwits in that area only had guns&ammo knowledge.Basically not the best salesman and steered people into being overgunned.Very sad indeed.I quit after they hired a fella that nearly beat some guy to death with a chain. They got him straight out of prison because he had archery background. After a few years they finally figured out he was selling his buddies expensive bows and supplys for next to nothing.Imagine that.

necchi,

Please give us shooters from Appalachia more credit than that. We did shot British sympathizer Fergusons ass off at the Battles of Kings Mountain and Cowpens also a lot of the ones at the Alamo were from Appalachia. The original poster is from Ohio which is north of the Mason-Dixon line and closer to you. We actually use "bar grese" doesn't leave the meat tasting soapy.

Jim, glad someone finally said something about that comment by necchi. I guess maybe he has been watching that show moonshiners on discovery a little too much lately, and thinks we all are wearing bibs around in the deep woods... He should know that moonshine is what we was down the bar grese with.

I noticed that the moderators bleeped me on that comment. Hope they don't have lye soap. No It's not good to clean barrels with it's to caustic. Mom used it for washing clothes and mouths out when one of us said a dirty word. Man that stuff tastes terrible.
