opinions on this 220 swift please

Ive used a ruger 220 swift for years.
Ive killed tons of deer groundhogs and prairiedog its always my go to gun. As far as a barrel burner that crap. Ive got 2500 rounds on a factory barrel and it still hold .75 inch groups. Also 220 swift with barnes tsx bullets put them deer down!

Looks to be a good price for a new gun. Love my Swift. Good luck finding Winchester or Remington Brass!

BUY!!! You will love it. 4064 and Sierra 50 grain Blitz . 1 grain x 100=fps. 38 grains x 100 = 3800 fps.
Bought my first one used and musta shot 3000 rounds thru it. Throat looked like fireplace andiron. Really cracked.
Changed to 55 grain loaded WAY out. Still shot <0.50 at 100.
Used 4350 and 52 grain Nosler solid base for deer. Killed Txxxxxxxx deer second longest distance - 425 yds.

Norm brass seems to be ready avaliable. Better then Remington anyway. The Remington rifles all come with a 14 twist so your going to be limited to 55 gr bullets. But, the price is about right. Try some Hogdon 414 ball powder and go for it.

That rifle has been for sale at that price for several weeks. Either the demand is low or the price is high. There was the identical rifle sold in April, NIB, that went for $798. This listing is from GunBroker's past sales so you may have to be logged in to look at it:

$900 to start? Heading off into GougeLand, imo. Bud's - for example - sells this same rifle for around $750 (when in stock). Keep in mind it has the cheap Tupperware stock, so figure several hundred dollars to replace it right off the bat. Oh, and make sure it has the post-recall trigger, or you're talking at least another $150 for an installed aftermarket one. Might as well pop for a VSSF if you can find one, or one of the older H-S Precision-stocked models with the heavy blued barrels.
I've recently read of one of these new-style VSF Swifts having accuracy problems. Almost bought one myself a while back but couldn't get past the slow 14 barrel twist; figure if I have to hunt down a rare Savage Swift for a 1:12", might as well have ER Shaw build one (with several twist options, but single-shot unfortunately) for around a grand.

Norma makes excellent brass for the Swift. If you're a varmint or predator hunter you'll love it. Mine is a 14 twist and I've never been sorry for that, there are plenty of good (and fast) bullets under 55gr. WD

This rifle should sell for $765.00 and no more. I own one. I had to send it back to remington once because it shot terrible. It still doesn't shoot great buy I have one load that will keep 5 under 1 inch and will do .7 at best. I had to add a jewel trigger and a different stock as well. For 900 you can probably find a low round count older swift that has a decent trigger and an HS stock.

thanks for the replies. i have about 700 rounds of brass im been buying up when i seen it the last 2 years or so.

You might find one for less but that's about the best current factory in stainless. I spent yrs looking for a Ruger tang model Swift and wouldn't sell it at twice that. And anew gun to boot. Heck send it to rRemington if it ain't right. You're going to love the Swift and it is designed for lightweight pills. Explosive or load X bullets for game. A 50TXS will do the job no doubt.

Love my Swifts. I happen to have an extra vssf that I might part with.its in new condition. I put a scope on it and haven't needed it yet. I mean Isn't 4 enough? I shoot 50 bt at 4000 fps. I love teaching squirrels acrobatic lessons

PM info.. kinda have money burning a hole in my pocket lol

I shoot the Swift's twin brother, a 22-250AI. Does everything it's supposed to do. If I hadn't discovered how effective .20 calibers are, I'd still love hotrod 22's.

I have an addiction problem to 20 cals. I'm up to nine and have 4 more barrels on order. I might need to seek some professional help.
That's the reason I'd be willing to give up one of my Swifts

I love my Swift. If it is a Swift you want, build it. Get a 700 action, have any of the good barrel makers make your barrel and chamber it, put in a Jewell, plop it in a stock of choice. i like the old 40X stocks, bedded. I like mine more than several 22-250's I have had.

The one you are looking at is over-priced for that tupperare piece of poo stock. So you are getting a 700 action, a factory barrel, a tupperware stock for a price that is high.
