Been himmin and hawin about buying one of the New Grizzly Bald Eagle Slingshot cast iron rests for 1k BR competition. Grizzly seems to have designed it more for F-class. But maybe I'm wrong.

Just wondering what you fellas think about this rest for 1k br shooting? Would it make a competitive rest?

I am planning on buying the new Sinclair BR com rest right now, but when I might only be able to make 2-3 shoots per year with my work schedule, the $250 I would save with the grizzly rest seems to be more sensible if it will work.

Grizzly rest $350, Sinclair $600.

Thanks for any input :)

BigDMT, Trust me there's no comparison between the Bald Eagle and the Sinclair Competition Shooting Rest. My brother-in-law recently purchased the new Sinclair and it one fine machine. I was very impressed with it and I own a Seb Neo. The first time I shot off of it I shot five 5 shot groups from it with my 30BR and my agg was 0.268. If you don't need or like a coaxial the Sinclair would be hard to beat in it's price range.

I think i had 2 Neo's and many others like Hart But i kept the Sinclair Competition and made a few improvements. If you plan to shoot long range, it's one of the best for it. It is very stable and if you get your rifle to track properly you don't need one that moves all over. Half the time i don't have to make any adjustment and if i do it's very small.......jim

I certainly can understand being on a budget, but with that said maybe you want to go another way. I don't think there is a real comparision to be made between the two rests you mention. However before you go and spend the $600 maybe for just a little more you can get a true custom rest built to serve you personally and your needs.

Bob Pastor one of the posters here on accurate shooter his a "GREAT" custom rest builder. Bob doesnt just build rests he puts a little of himself into them. His rest hold many records and you just might be surprised at what you can afford from Bob. Here is a link to his web site and Good Luck!!

Not on a budget, I always try to keep from spending extra money if it isn't needed. Just trying to get the "best bang for my buck".

And it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to spend $1k on a rest that might only be used two times per year. That's why I'm asking about the cheaper rests. Ill check Bobs site out. Thanks.

OK. Now here's a little different question.....Why in the world would a company that builds a rest called the "VIPER" put engravings and pictures of King Cobra snakes all over it??? Any ideas? ::)

Pretty sure I've never seen a Viper snake with a hood?... :o Just sayin...

BigDMT,

I'm making a custom bikers rest right now with flying pigs on it and I've never seen a pig with wings!

A biker will know what the wings mean.

It was my personal preference since a true Viper snake isn't very intimitating, until they have you cornered.

BigDMT,

I forgot to mention that if you read my website, My rifle is named Viper, hence the name of the rest "The Viper's Rest.

Oh I see. But why not call the rest the "Cobra" or put pictures of angry vipers on it?

Pigs with wings is an obvious fantasy creature so that is understandable. A snake is a snake, unless you start adding wings or arms to it. The Cobra is indeed a menacing snake, but here are many ways to depict a menacing Viper as well.

It reminded me of when on some modern movies where characters in the movie will be hunting a creature like lets say...an elk in the Rocky Mountains. But because movie producers couldn't get a real rocky mountain elk or perhaps they just don't know what one looks like, they throw a reindeer in their movie to play the part of the elk.

Anyhow, I was just curious. Thank you for your input on the Grizzly rest. I will be shooting 1K BR with the best in the world (williamsport rules, 10 shot groups and score) so it doesn't sound like the Grizzly rig will be up to the task in keeping me competitive. Take care :)

BigDMT,

To reply to your original question. The Grizzly rest is a very stable rest and is priced very competitively for the type of shooting you will be doing. You won't be unhappy with it. My rest is produced for the long range marksman, who needs absolute stability.

The Rest is not called The Cobra because my rifle is named Viper. I've made over 200 rests and most of them do not have any snakes on them. My customers decide what they want on the rests. I made one for the FBI and one for a gentleman who is an Auburn University fan and they don't have any snakes on them. It's all personal preference.

If you get a chance, go to the Customizing Button and take a look.

Yeah I did look at that. Pretty awesome work you do sir :) Really like the brass accents. I'm actually putting together a custom rifle right now on a stainless Rem 700 Mag action and went with the gold colored bold shroud. Then just ordered a Badger tactical fluted bolt knob and gonna do it up in gold as well. I think the gold or brass colors really give stuff a nice "kick" for a high class look :)

Just out of more curiosity...Is your rifle you call the "Viper" built on a Stiller Viper action?

This looks like something a Colombian drug dealer would use! Very beautiful!

Eddie,

Anyone who mounts a squirrel rescue mission and has a haircut smooth as a hazelnut, just has to be cool and loved by all!!! ;D

I know I think so!! ;)

I would not look past a Viper rest.

I had Bob modify my aluminum Bald Eagle SingShot that I picked up on ebay for $240. He put F-Class feeet on it and modified it as you see. It's been the general workhorse in F-Class duty even though I had a custom rest made by Bob.

I tried the custom rest in my last match and it will now be used as the regular duty match rest. I got many compliments on the rest and many people asked where I got it. I always pass out your name Bob ;)

Excuse the oxidation on the brass, but I live beachside in Daytona and it's nearly impossible to keep things perfect in the salt air....

Viper-ized Bald Eagle rest... from 13# to 18# with the F-Class feet added....

Heres a link to my Bald Eagle that was "Viperized": http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2011/09/bald-eagle-rest-gets-extreme-make-over-by-bob-pastor/

I too have a "Big" Viper rest also and love it... It is definitely the rest that dont move, a work of mechanical art and the has best customer service dept I have ever experienced...

One of the best things about working with Bob Pastor is; He will listen to your wants, ideas, desires and will only make you what you want... Your ideas are a vital part of the rest he makes for you.. They are like Bob, "One of a Kind"...
