Opinions on Brux Barrels???

I like my Brux 30" 1:8" twist chambered as 6mmBRDX. We got gun back from Tom Meredith two days ago and did a 10-rd function test just as the light was fading. After boresighting and 2 sighters to get centered, here is 100yd 3-shot followed by 5-shot using Lapua Scenar L 105s with Varget and CCI 450s. This should appear very close to "life-size". Tom,
Now that's funny right there!! Tom,...your one of the most talented shooters I have ever seen, that or your the luckiest man in the world. I admire your ability to read a condition, make a slight change under the heat of a fierce competition,...keep your composure and come out on top time and time again! your a joy to watch and you have been a good friend and mentor,...thanks ;)
Wayne.

Id definitely be willing to argue that Tom and Leo are the 2 best 1000 yard br shooter's in the world. And they both hold current world records to back that argument up :)

Thank you for your post of targets. Those are excellent groups. It seems that I will be very happy with my first Brux barrel.

Oh you will get no argument from me BigD,..I already know that and Leo's brother Lonnie really was doing well last year also, best bunch of guy's I have ever hung out with bar none!
Wayne.

Oh and Paul,...looks like you have a real shooter there,...can't wait to see how she does with a couple hundred down the tube ;)

thanks Wayne but you give me way too much credit. good tools, we'll tuned goes a long way. sometimes I swear it IS luck, some of the dumbest things happen and it still works out. example last season, Mel on my left couldn't see his spotter, so he asked where he was. I look, tell him, he couldn't hear me, tell him again. by the time I look at mine it's disappearing below the concrete. I remembered I had been leaving it way out right, waiting for the "right to left" to come back. records came up n was still running hard left to right so I cranked it 1.5 left n a couple clicks up and ran like hell.... result was a mid 5, 100 score. now tell me that ain't anything but dumb a$$ LUCK, lol.

Tom

No that's not luck at all IMO. That's more like a perfect example of your extraordinary skill level and how well you know your equipment ;)

Right now i have three different brux barrels (have had/have 14 total) with a national record on them. All three at 600 yrds in f class. Two 7mm and one 6mm. I let a friend of mine break in a seven at a match and she pasted her first clean score of 200-14X which is a womens record. I used the six and shot a 200-19X same day. Two years ago at Lodi nationals I shot a 150-13X on the only calm relay of that entire match. I can't (yet) shoot a record at 1000 yrds but I think its got more to do with the shooter than the barrell. Make sure you get a good gun plumber to chamber it. The best barrell in the world can be made useless in the hands of a bad gun smith. I don't think there is a better barrell out there. I took second at nationals this year becouse I was out shot, not because David had a better barrell. I know a guy from North Carolina that set a TR record down there (I pulled the target for him) and I think he had over 2000 rds on that barrell. That was also a brux barrell. I have had a few that didn't shoot so well until I pulled my head out of my arse. Seems to work better then. If it doesn't shoot its probably you. Good luck I am sure will love it.

Thanks Bob. A lot of good input there. With all this positive input on Brux barrels, think I might go ahead and buy a 6.5mm barrel right now. Not like they are gonna get any cheaper ;)

Brandon,

I suppose I generally knew where it HAD been yes.... okay, more lucky yet, Wayne was there for this one.

March 2012... after the Saturday matches I am PPPP O'd at my light gun barrel. it just kept throwing a vertical flyer, no matter what I threw at it. so I send it to town with Jack Peterson that night. I will let Wayne finish this story.......
..better lucky than good is all I can say!

Tom

OMG!!!,...Guy's I don't remember all the exact details but this is the talk of the club all last year, I am not positive but I think this is the same barrel that Tom got a patch stuck in the previous season and it never really shot to it's potential, Tom had been trying different things with it and on the first match of the year got sooooo Peo'd at it that he yanked the barrel after the first Sat. match and sent it home with Jack Peterson to cut some off the end of the barrel and recrown it, Jack brought it out Sunday morning and DURING TOM'S RELAY HE SCREWS THE BARREL BACK ON!!!! BORE SIGHTS IT ON HIS SIGHTER PERIOD AND SHOOTS A 100 WITH IT!!!!!! I know that sounds like B.S but fella's I was there and it did happen!!! and know if your gun does't shoot someone hollars for Peterson to bring his hacksaw we need some help here!!! LOL scouts honor!
Wayne.

Tom,
I am sorry if I butchered the story to badly but it was mostly right, you can correct my story if I was too off base ;)
Wayne.

Wayne,
that is how it went, I had him take 2.5 inches off the bastich. yes, that darn plastic jag thing acted up the prior season, and getting it to back up required a hammer. ya know, I have been playing with short barrels ever since, and kind of like what I am finding.

Tom

I am hearing more and more about short range BR shooters having better accuracy with shorter barrels. Some are shooting only 20-22" barrels. Yeah you will lose some velocity with a shorter pipe, but if you can cut a barrel to a length where you still stay supersonic at 1000, then the shorter metal would be that much less harmonics and barrel whip to deal with I suppose.
I usually only run 22" barrels on my varmint rifles just to make them handier in a truck and they are VERY accurate.

And yes Tom, I will probably end up joining the crowd with the 6 Dasher after some good beatings from you this year :) Just want to give this 6.5X47 a whirl for fun this season since I'm already vested in it.

That's a crazy story on that barrel BTW. I will say that is pretty much dumb luck there. But you know, luck counts too ;)

Brandon,

I won't be shooting a dasher this year.

Tom

Oh really? What will the new secret super weapon be chambered in?

wsm HG, you can help me carry it too!

LG.......... smaller, dasher was beating me up

Tom

Maybe I'll turn my 338-375R into a HG and we can both put on muzzle breaks and shoot with Leo in between us so we have a better chance of winning :) LOL!

The muzzle blast should either knock him unconscious or knock his bullets into a tumble as they come out his muzzle :)

he is tough to beat Brandon.....I hope one of these years to draw the rotation together, it's not happened once yet. it would be cool and might push me and maybe him.

Tom

That would be cool. But I remember in 2011 at the august championship shoot when Leo and a bunch of other big name shooters came up in a relay together. Remember it was like an "all star" relay? Under all that pressure, Leo pulled off about a 5" group with a 100 score. He can be an animal even under pressure

Tom,
Did you ever get them Spencers I gave you to shoot? Should I keep them or off them? I heard what you were going to be shooting this year, I would like to talk to you about that and maybe bullet choice, I did my best ever last year with the hybrids and Derek did awesome with them but I don't think I will go that route this year, they just weren't consistant enough. I was thinking just the VLD's but would like your input, also wanted to see if you got to check out that scope we talked about, I guess this should be in a p.m or email,...thanks Tom.
Wayne.

Wayne,

they shot for me, a tad under 2.5... I have so many things that I am finding out, it's a good thing I keep notes lol. call me if you want Wayne the 450#is best.

Tom

Just make sure you photo copy all the notes of secrets revealed and pass them on to me. I promise to give you some of the prize money if I win using your research tips! Just like when I used your HG with your world record barrel to win the day and take 4th overall in the championship then gave you the money. Hahaha :)

Brandon,

I cannot believe after I let you shoot my BEST barrel EVER EVER EVER..... you are building a 6.5..... like my dad always said, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink!"

some people's kids lol

Tom

6 inches with ten rounds at a measly 1000 yards just wasn't cutting it for me. Figured I can do better with a different round! LOL!

Got my Brux barrel today. Action should be in tomorrow. Reamer is still a few weeks out and the stock i ordered will take 2 months to make. Slowly but surely the pieces are starting to come in...

Hopefully have her put all together by May. Gonna be one heck of a long range elk rifle. Planning on doing a Colorado elk hunt this year just for a change of scenery. This new 33 launching 250gr Berger VLDs should be a perfect companion :)
