Opinions on Brux Barrels???

BigDMT

I just purchased a Brux Stainless MTU contour barrel for my next rifle project.

I have rifles with Lilja, McGowen and Krieger barrels. I like all of those well enough. Prefer the McGowen and Krieger both over the Lilja for ease of finding loads. I've read good things about Brux barrels, but I have never barreled a rifle with one before, nor do I know anybody on a personal level that has used one.

I like that they are cut rifling like Krieger. They claim their tolerances are the same. +/- .0005 on bore diameter. Hand lapped and guaranteed satisfaction. and at only $300 for a new stainless match barrel, they are one of the more affordable barrels right now. That's kind of what tipped me in their direction. Not really that much of a difference in price from others, but I like to try new things too :)

So I was just wondering what any of your experiences have been using Brux barrels?

Love the one I have! 27' med. palma chambered in 6BR. Shot LR prone with it this past year and it preformed flawlessly. Sub MOA vertical out at 1K. It shoots better than I can. Great product for the price, and turn around time!

You'll never want another brand. The ease of break in and forgiveness in the load department are amazing. I took the plunge two years ago and all my builds have worn Brux ever since. I just ordered another for a 6.5 SAUM build.

Norm makes as good a barrel as anybody. I have used Kreiger, Rock Creek, Obermeyer, Bartlein, etc and Brux tubes are at that level.

Excellent. That's what I've read about them and that's exactly what I was hoping to hear :)

I'm building a 338-375 Ruger and Norm had a 33 cal barrel in stock with a 1 in 10"twist so there was no wait time to get it. I bought it today and he's dropping it in the mail tomorrow.

I plan to hunt with it, which means the MTU contour is much too heavy. So I'm gonna have it turned down to a LV contour around. 850" at the muzzle of either 26" or 27". Haven't decided on which of those lengths yet.

Will be mounted and blueprinted to a trued stainless Rem 700 magnum action having all the internal upgrades. Should shoot pretty good with 250gr Bergers.

If that barrel performs how I expect, I plan on buying another brux for a 6.5-300 RCM Build. Then if that shoots good. I may rebarrel my 6.5x47L with a Brux when the Krieger it wears now loses life.

Thanks for the input so far fellas. More input always welcome

There are a couple guy's shooting them at deep creek last year and liked them, also Preacher gave a outstanding recommendation to me on them about a year ago, I don't think you will be upset with it, for .338 I prefer a Boots Obermeyer barrel but I wouldn't be scared of that Brux one bit,...best of luck to you.

Thanks Wayne. Do the 33 cal Obermeyer's you use have the 5R rifling? I like the idea of that for heavy magnums with large bullets so that you get that little bit less of surface contact and bullet jacket stress.

Norm said Obermeyer is just right down the street from him. That would explain why they both make great cut rifled barrels for pretty much the same exact price. They've got to be constantly competing against each other! ;)

I think Tom just shot a 3.3" or smaller 10 shot group with the 6mm Brux @ 1k..... I also just picked one up. Their very good barrels.

Brandon, I believe Obermeyer came up with the 5r rifling, then John Krieger started using it although I think John used to work for Boots also Mike Rock did also but I think Boots had it patend at least at one time but I am going off memory and I am loosing that rapidly every day, but to answer your question yes they are 5r.

Ok thanks. Yeah I did notice on the Krieger website they call that rifling option "Obermeyer 5R Rifling". So he must be getting royalties on those barrels.

Nice. Tom must have just put one on this year I suppose? Because I don't remember any of his rifles having them before....

If the Krieger doesn't work out on my 6.5X47L at 1K, I suppose I might have to try a Brux for that application as well. A 3.3" 10 shot group isn't very far off the world record. That's just what we need too...Tom getting better! ;D LOL! Just kidding, that's great for him and I'm glad to hear he has another great rifle. He really puts his heart and soul into that competition at the Deep Creek range and deserves every bit of glory he can get :)

I think 9 out of those 10 were all in the box......and that was a photo copied box not really to scale, but under-sized. I believe the 100 score group record is around 4.008" or so.
I dont think you will be unhappy with the Brux.

Hey Tom,
How's the Montana winter treating you? Talked to Lonnie on the phone tonight, I am getting excited already I guess I better get busy building something.
Wayne.

My Brux barrels shoot just as well as Krieger or Bartlein. I currently have seven Brux barrels with two more on order. Of the top four F-Open shooters at the Nationals this year, at least two shot Brux barrels. I don't know what barrel David Bailey was shooting but I think it might be a Brux, too.

Bozo, no worries, it was a fluke deal, I think the wooden bench just twitched the right way so the flyers went "in"... hell, I already forgot witch barrel in the pile it was! won't be long and we'll be back down there. 23rd of March is the first one!

Tom

I'm gonna take some extra time off this year to make a couple extra shoots because right now with my schedule, I can only make the June and August shoot. Sick of workin like a dog and that's as good an excuse as any to take time off .

I wonder if Dennis will be missing some shoots this year too? He's got the academy til march, but then as a new officer he'll probably end up working nights, holidays, and weekends for a while. Course he won't know til after the academy.

I sure hope Dennis makes it, he is a great guy, what kind of academy? I hope you make a few I only saw there the once I think.

Dennis is going to the police academy. Gonna be a city cop. He's definitely got the right demeanor for a police officer so I think he will do well in that profession.

I sure hope I can make more than 2 shoots this year. I really want to get into it more. It's hard enough having my schedule work out to makes shoots, then even harder to get a good rifle built and test it at the range. But my job has to take priority for my family's sake. Hopefully one day it will all settle down and I can get back to spending more time on my hobbies.

Right now I'm on my week off. Just got done cleaning all my varmint and hunting rifles and handguns from this fall and right now I'm sanding down the stock on my 6.5X47L for a new paint job. Should have it done by this weekend. Maybe I'll post a couple pics when it's done. Take care Wayne.

Brux is a very good barrel and i have a few, and they shoot small.2 and 3's can be done at 1K.......even Tom can do it .....LOL..... jim
