Opening Day Tomorrow

No, but one thing I can guarantee is that west bound Interstate 10, between San Antonio and Houston, is bumper to bumper with loaded down pickups pulling trailers.

For single guys there will be a lot of new faces in the clubs around Houston.

No kidding! I bet there were 50 trucks with sidexsides or 4wheelers at buccees in Ft Worth. Idk how many we saw between there and Lubbock.

Normally I would be heading to the ranch but I have a young one at home recovering from a surgery.

Goodluck out there. I’ll be at home putting a dent in the beer population!

I hear you! The local range was flooded with hunters yesterday doing their last minute zeroing! I should have got my video camera and recorded them. No doubt, I could have put together a hilarious YouTube contribution, had I the time. The RO called for help, but I was conveniently not available. I'll bet the rifles, fired one day prior to opening day, were new or unfired since last season.

I’m sure you saw a couple guys with their 300rums, Caldwell bipods fully extended, and bent over squeezing their shoulder like a sniper! Target resembles a 50yd turkey target hahaha. I love when they finally finish their box of cor-lok ammo like they are trying to avoid a wind change and walk down range. The excuses I hear are the best!!!

Hahaha. Westex is a friend of mine....

I went to the range, and didn't take a gun. I just wanted to watch. I saw a lot of screwdrivers, but not much lock-tite. I also saw a ton of high fives over "hitting the bullseye."

Truthfully, I'm glad they had a good time. That's cool to me.

I'm defense of the few, I saw some good old boys (and a girl) hang a target, shoot once or twice, and pack up.

By the way Joe, what are you shooting next weekend, hehe...

Oh idk. Might go sight in that .223 for ya or pick up that 6.5x47L of yours. I damn sure won’t be shooting a 22 dasher hahahah

We had sight in day at our local range a week or so ago ( in Michigan our opening day isn't till the 15th)... anyways I went to volunteer my help and I will say most people are good and will accept help and pointers ... but the few hard heads we will call them are a hand full... worst was a guy with an ar 10 in 6.5 creedmoor ... after the initial 10 ... I told him no more seeing how fast he can pull the trigger got pissed and yelled at me ( hey kid this is how I sight my gun in just watch and you will learn a thing or two ). I just chuckled said ok and told the other guy helping I'm going to go get a cup of coffee I'll be back when he's done wasting our time and his ammo. We decided next year we are going to add a rule for those types of guys only a 3 shot string with at minimum 30 sec in between ... hopefully it will help for those that obviously don't have confidence in first shot...

On a second note we provide lead sleds for those that want to use it but I ask them to always fire at least 2 with out ...if it helps or not come hunting time idk but I know it makes me feel better seeing them hit the target with out it

I’m all about people learning and having a good time. I love helping people who want to be helped. That’s how Clancy and I met! Hell I’ll never pass down an opportunity to show off my rifles or to let someone shoot a $5000 gun. Tickles me pink everytime.

But far to many people do not take any of this seriously enough. The most important responsibility as a hunter is to make a clean ethical kill. I honestly believe that thought never occurs to some.

Anyways. I’m sure there were many success stories this weekend. Maybe even some kills. My 2yr old nephew got to spend his first evening in the blind thanks to the 85F weather!
