The story goes like this: It was nighttime, and it was raining, cold, and muddy (sound familiar to anyone?). The Top Sergeant was cussing and yelling, trying to get the company loaded into the railcars. Finally he went over to where the Captain was standing under the eaves of the train station, smoking a cigarette. 'Captain, we can get 40 men into them boxcars with no problem. There ain't no way in he** we can get the 8 horses in behind them though!'

wrong thread. This the 405 Winchester next to the other 8x57 Rimmed. Notice the "stepped" two diameter bullet. It helped keep the pressure down when firing this .321" diameter bullet in the .318" bore.

That is an impressive piece of history you have there. There is certainly a lot of craftmanship for it's time. I like unique stuff too. Not that I have anything quite like that. That is a piece of art as well. The oldest ones I have is a Winchester 1895 chambered in 303 British and a Remington 35 pump (1913 if I recall), heirlooms from my ancestors down east in New Brunswick. All the best in your ammunition quest / endeavors.
