I never ran into rattlesnakes the 12 years I lived in Texas, but then again I wasn't wandering around the woods in March when they were coming out of their dens. Even so, I wouldn't have expected to find them in a field of blue bonnets. I can tell you I was very cautious were I stepped and where put my hand when I was around water..................

My three years in Arizona was a different story though. Most were Western Diamondbacks which are pretty well mannered. However, the Mojaves were aggressive and if a greenish colored Mojave got you, you were in trouble.

I was walking past the mental hospital yesterday and the patients were all yelling "13....13......13"

The fence was too high to see over but I spotted a little gap in the planks.

I leaned in to see and some idiot poked me in the eye with a stick.

Then they all started yelling "14....14....14"

Reminds me of a rockchuck shoot with my son years ago. We were shootin just off the road on BLM land out to a rock rim about 300 yds. Kid was shootin' his 22-250 and I was spottin, with earmuffs on. (I'm on hearing aids now, not yet then). We walked up the road a piece, still shootin some, then walked out to check on the carnage.

I headed straight back to the truck across the sagebrush flat. Got to the rig and the kid was way off my trail, headed back tho. Took my earmuffs off.

He came up and asked me how many off those buzzworms I saw and skirted. I asked Huh?

I'm thinking about turning Muslim .I read somewhere in some sects you are allowed to beat your wife with a stick but only one as big as your thumb.I,m going to assume they mean diameter.So here is my question,Honest opinions only please,Would it be cheating to hit my thumb with a hammer before using it for a no go gauge ?

Fondest memories of my Texas Rio Grande hunt near Llano. It was an unusually wet Spring, and I just had to capture the stunning wildflowers. The look of absolute horror on my Guide's face when he saw what I was doing instantly registered on me of how foolish my actions were.
This image (not mine) brought that moment back with an adrenaline rush......
