My Job Calling Me "Essential"

When I was working and the Christmas Holidays rolled around, it was common on the last work day, for the front office to announce just after lunch that all nonessential personnel could leave work early.
The workers had to wait for shift relief and most of the day folks would wait around until the Boss left. They didn't want the boss to get the idea that someone considered themselves nonessential.
