? on fireforming 220 russian using 22 cal bullets

Back in the 80s when I was in stool shooting, we just used paper towel roll one enough for a tight fit into the neck, lit them off in a 55 gallon drum over at TJ's shop. He will make the first pass in turning necks, then fire form them again in the drum before making the final turning. Last step is fine tuning the necks with steel wool.

I never asked whether there were any media in the drum, but it sure made one hell of a noise muffler.

WARNING...... All combustible fumes must be eliminated from any barrel before any spark is introduced.

My neighbor was killed cutting the lid out of a barrel with a torch.

The 55gal barrel contained remnants of its original contents and exploded when the spark was introduced. The lid blew out of its seal and struck him in the face killing him instantly.

I live 1/4 mile away. The explosion echoed down the valley we live in. It was so loud I thought it was a propane explosion.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL.....

The drum has been set up specifically and used for fireforming long before I took up the game. What I meant about any media whether there were any sand or rubber shredding in the drum. Yes, it was vented to the outside wall.

I have used 13.0g of Bullseye, fill case with cream of wheat, tuft of paper towel(I like the blue), lite her off.

At 22 caliber, I expand to 25 caliber and use the larger dia to act as a false shoulder to set the headspace length.

due to weather, curiosity and bordum I decided to try a 6 br Lap to form a 7 br . I did bullseye to the neck shoulder junction and Bounty (the quicker picker upper) rolled up to seal the neck. The case came out with a neck length .030 longer than when I usually K&M expandiron to make this brass. I fired it out of my opened basement door. Very loud . When I make more I'll do it at the range. The case at the base was about .0015 smaller then a fired case. I used a Rem 6 1/2 primer and it was very rounded and showed no pressure signs. Bore was very dirty even after only 1 round. I will probably be doing ppc cases the same way. Bruce
