Omega Auto Trickler vs a high end digital scale

Currently I have an RCBS 505 scale and was thinking of going digital for F Class shooting, then I came across the Omega Auto trickler. Has anyone had any first hand experience using both the Omega Auto with a beam scale versus a good digital scale? I would like to get down to one kernel of Varget.

I use an Omega trickler and a Sartorius Entris 64 electronic balance. Works great and EASILY weighs to 1 kernel of anything. Very very fast also.

I guess I was trying to avoid buying an expensive scale if I can get the same result with the auto trickler along the the current balance beam.

The Omega trickler is a reasonably good product that can "automate" your trickling versus (eg) using a tweezer. It can have no affect on the stability or accuracy of your scale.

I use that trickler with a Scott Parker balance beam scale. They work great together.

I am also using the Omega Trickler with a Scott Parker modified Balance Beam. There was an interesting You Tube video of using the Omega Trickler with a RCBS Chargemaster and the increased accuracy of throwing light and then trickling with the Omega.'

I think the OP is asking about the AUTO version that includes an optical device which attaches to the scale, and automatically operates the trickier.

Think about it, he is already thinking about a good digital scale and you need a good one if you are going the Omega, so after that, there really is not a huge price difference going the Omega and the autotrickler route once you make the big investment in the scale... The BIG difference is in the performance of the two.

Oh. i agree there.. the Omega isn't the issue.. the is the huge tag on that scale!

I use a thrower, a digital scale (Sartorius...but much cheaper 0.01gr accuracy scales are available) and Adam's Autotrickler. One kernel resolution and about 10sec more or less per charge. The whole package can be had for under $1000. I would think the Omega autotrickler with a tuned scale could produce 1-2 kernel resolution for a bit less $. What is your budget and how important is speed?

That's what I was interested in. I realize that the standard Omega powder trickler just automates the trickling function as others have said. There is another version (that you are talking about) that uses a photoelectric eye to automatically stop the trickling function when the beam reaches zero. If someone has used this and then measured the charges on a digital scale and they are way off, then I wouldn't go that route. However if it was accurate to within a kernel, then I might. it would be a $169 vs $1500 decision.

You still need to buy the scale and what I suggested was never a $1500 decision. The scale is around $600 and the autotrickler $230. But when it comes to cost, it's a personal decision... You did say "high end digital scale" in the title......

If you're thinking about going to an accurate digital, improving speed, but staying low budget this option might be something to consider....

It's not the be all end all, but it's been working pretty darn well for me lately. I do have an Omega trickler, a Scott Parker beam scale on order, and if price was no object I'd be using the A&D FX120i + autotrickler combo.

that's what I was thinking about. maybe with the accurized beam scale it might just be the ticket.

I have the omega with a Scott Parker scale. I like it. It's quick using the auto function. It was faster and more accurate than using a chargemaster. I am due to get my Prometheus in soon. Otherwise I would still use it. I have an gempro 250 I check it with

So when you weigh a few identical charges on your RCBS/Omega setup, and then weigh them on the GemPro, how is the repeatability; are the charges all the same, or how much different? Why did you decide to get the Prometheus?
