olympic biathlon

I love watching Biathlon on Peacock you get to see everything from check-in to check-out. Sixty years ago I wish I would have known about biathlon when I was skiing in to do ADC work and running traplines. I even set up a double sling like those although much more primitive to lay the stock flat on my back.

Now I use a back scabbard and don't have to mod rifles. I also moved to the SW but keep a couple pairs of XC skis handy in case I want to do some winter hunting in cold country.

The U.S. has never been competitive in the biathlon. But I respect the athletes who compete. No other sport comes close!

The US is slowly becoming more competitive, while ranked 19th in the world the 20 KM combined the US finished 7th and at one point were 2nd. We are ust recently becoming competitive in XC skiing. XC sking was just a new thing in this country in the early 1960's.

Europe has a long history of combining skiing and shooting both domestically and militarily. It wasn't until WW-II that we formed the 9th Mountain division and taught soldiers to shoot and ski at Cooper Hill in CO.

In the Winter War the Fins fought the Russian to a standstill do to their ability to fight in sever winter conditions. One of the greatest snipers ever came out of that war. Simo Hayha credited with over 500 kills in 100 days was a skier, hunter and farmer.

Biathlon, Smallbore 3P, Air Rifle & Air Pistol are the ONLY Olympic events that even remotely interest me anymore.

Summer Biathlon (running, and fired with an air rifle) is a great way to get young kids into the shooting sports.

The ISSF (under direction from the IOC) have eliminated Men's 50M prone, 50M Freestyle Pistol, Rapid-fire Pistol, and (after 1972), 300M Rifle from the program. I'm not even sure if Pentathlon uses a real pistol any longer.

I will still watch, because I have known (and shot against) some of the competitors in the past, and it's nice to see them 'up there' on the world stage, representing your country.

Everyone has their own opinion - as my coach is fond of saying "that's why they make vanilla & chocolate."

The Chinese are laughing at the World, release a man-made disease, kill millions. Continue their slavery and "ethic cleansing". And fund their Taiwan takeover with TV and Olympic money. But I suppose the Biden family isn't cheap to own.
^^^^^^^[

I admit I am on the fence about this display of Chinese Communist Superiority.

I want to support out Athletes, but to do it I am forced to condone the actions of one of the most brutal Thugocracys around.

I say condone because that is what the entire World is doing. After releasing a virus on the entire Planet that has killed millions and left economies in shambles, nobody is willing to step up and condemn the Communist Chinese. They seem to operate with impunity.

Follow the money.
