Olympic Biathlon

I can't speak to the TV coverage, but I heard a libtard on NPR talking about what "great athletes" it takes to successfully participate. So no, I don't think its just you.
ok i dont have to go to the doc to make sure im ok:)

are they anschutz. i know they make them and i wonder if any other company does?
The Russian Izmash, or something like that, makes a competing product. It's not quite the same, but similar idea.

They don't blink....literally,on their 5 shot strings. Was over at one of the boys house($$ tv "stuff") yesterday,he made me watch it.The non blinking thing, and their abilities not so much steady holds, that's obvious.....but the steady "platform" meaning, during their standing string and cycling the action, their torso/gun/head looks like it's in a vise......was immediately apparent. The other thing was foaming at the mouth when crossing finish line, and they all seemed to go to the ground(ice) in the typical male reproduction posture.Just darn interesting.Wifey was playing with her new Gbaby.Son and DIL were happy for the break, haha.

I wish I would have had the opportunity to try biathlon when I was young.

As soon as I saw my first Fortner on TV I knew I had to have one.

At the sacrifice of selling some nice scopes and a Anschutz MPR I bought a new 1827F-N. It's the best money I ever spent on a firearm. To say I'm pleased with it would be would be a great understatement. It's about as accurate as a 22 gets, same with reliability, and the ergos are up there with the best. It's also compact and lightweight.
The speed of the action and not having to get out of position to run it has gotten me a few wins in 22 tactical matches for those reasons alone.

Don't they use electronic targets in the Olympics?

Not for biathlon. Yet. The targets are 5 black steel circles, that flop down and are covered by a white disk when hit. All shooting is 50 meters, standing targets are 4.5" diameter, prone is 1.8".

Took my wife to the chiropractor today and was setting in the vehicle waiting , listening to a local radio station that up until now had me convinced they were aok .
Was caught off guard when one of their broadcasters , a young woman , starts talking about being at her boyfriends house and seeing this Biathlon thing , her words , and these people were skiing around and shooting a bunch of guns . I never knew such a thing exsisted , she continued , it is so stupid , people just skiing around shooting at targets , I really don't get the hole Olympic thing , really stupid .
It had me so hot , I was wishing I had a way to speak to her so I could tell her about stupid .
I am going to let others know , this station broadcasts gun show events , and does the National Anthem every morning , don't know where they found this squerril .

In the early days they used 30-06 and 308's. The US just cannot seem to be able to buy a medal in this sport. It's not a game for wussies.

It is certainly a sport that one cannot "buy" their way into and get instant gratification.

Maybe a new iPhone game on the horizon. Then everyone can win a medal.

We do VERY well in archery....just sayin. And take this for what it's worth? But,show up at any of the big 3D Trad shoots.....and we'll kick some Korean arse!!!They do well in an Olympic format, and the USA team is right there with them.....but there ain't no way in heck their day to day,put up or shut up talent is even in the ballpark of what goes on "in season" here. And would be willing to bet that if it came down to it,our firearms shooters rule as well. It's about the format.

After 58 years we should have that format figured out.

Jus Sayin:rolleyes:

Which....biathlon or archery? The latter was changed to help spectators.Further, formats and well, the Olympics in general are sort of,oh how you say...political in nature.

Sports evolve....formats are a reflection of that.I have nothing but respect for the biathlon guys.

Biathletes are created from top tier, world class cross country skiers who are taught to shoot. A small percentage of Americans even xc ski, much less compete.
In Scandinavia, xc skiing is a national pastime.
The medal counts reflect this.
That Americans show well in any Nordic Skiing is a tremendous accomplishment.

My daughter competes in an equestrian sport that’s predominantly european called Eventing (also an Olympic sport) You think shooting is an expensive hobby? They televise it in Europe but most folks here never heard of it.

Love that action. Got to have one. You know how much of a blast that thing would be???!!! Oh and girls are nice to look at too.

There's no financial reward to compete in the Biathlon, as compared to snow boarding, or down hill skiing. Once the Games went pro it became games for the rich.
