Old Stuff from my dad

We moved my dad into assisted living. I think some of the old reloading stuff is pretty cool. Hope this does not seem weird, but I might even use some of it as decoration because I remember it growing up. Maybe one of those shadowboxes. The wooden holders for the primers are awesome. There will be many that will gaze wishfully at the prices on the powder and primers and bullets…

Thanks for sharing the pictures, I enjoy looking at reload stuff from back in the day. I ran across a box of Herters 357 bass when I was digging though a box of mine. I don’t remember what year I bought it. Praying for your dad as he moves to this new stage of his life.

Your post got me to wondering how much things have gone up over the years. I (don't ask me why..) started throwing receipts for components into a file many years ago - mainly to remind myself of what I have paid for certain things and where to look again when needed. Though I usually buy most items at Powder Valley - I sometimes stray elsewhere to good deals when they can be had. I found that I had purchased a LOT of components for some reason back in 2012. Another market tightening back then? Can't remember. Anyway, that got me to comparing what I paid for many brands of bullets like Barnes, Berger, Hornady, Sierra, etc. - as well as powder and primers. Seems Berger Bullets went up the most of all the bullets I looked at (about 60%) while everything else seemed to average somewhere between 25% on low end to around 50% on the high end. Surprisingly, I had paid around $6.50 for CCI 450 primers back then - and about $4.00 for most other primers. Seeing primers on sale these days at prices almost that low - it shows that things really aren't that much worse these days, when taking normal inflation into account. In a few cases, I things are much lower, inflation adjusted - such as rimfire ammo. It makes me want to buy more primers.

Not weird. When I was growing up my uncle taught me to shoot, hunt and reload. He was 17 years older than my dad so closer to grandparent age. I was always amazed at the old cartridge, primer and powder tins he had sitting around. I use them as decorations because they remind me of some of the best times in my life.

OP-- When my dad retired, downsized, and moved to Texas for his golden years, I took his old trapshooting trophies (from Whiting Gun Club, near you) and peeled off the plates from a dozen plus trophies and put them all on a plaque so I could have that to remember him as I aged. Still have the plaque in my gun room. You could do the similar with his old memorabilia. Just my thoughts...

CCI 200’s just arrived in short supply in OZ at $26 per hundred….
Consider your self lucky to see nearly a flat change in primer prices in your home town…

You have some cool old stuff there!
I'm with ya, I have a few reloading items and things from my dads passing, that are just too sentimental to get rid of, even old powder cans
I also use them to spice up the ambiance of the reloading area
Things like this, and old 8lb tin powder kegs for waste bins etc are a nice touch in my opinion.

I have a bunch of that cool "old stuff " also. When you mentioned the wooden primer trays it made me wish that I had kept one of those. Gonna have to look hard, but I think I may have tossed all of them. I feel for you and your dad. That's not an easy thing going to a nursing home. Thanks for your post.

I even found some of my dad's invoices and catalogs. I should scan and post them
