Old Remington 572 Shot Cartrige

I have an old Remington 572 pump 22 that is marked "22 Long Rifle Shot Cartridge"
Trying to determine date of manufacture. I looked up the date codes and I am not sure.

Here are some pictures.

I did some research and there was some information that the 572 marked
with "22 LONG RIFLE SHOT CARTRIDGE" was made starting 1973.
I know for sure that that is not the case because this was made before 1964.

I was surprised at the shot pattern this thing produced at 25 ft, way better
than I thought possible.

Wonder what the bore diameter is. I would think it is the land diameter before rifling. So they did not have to make a special barrel. Just use one that is bored before rifling.

At the Boy Scout camp that I went to in the '60's we had 22's that shot the shot cartridges, don't have any idea what the model was, but we were told they were smooth bore. Shot them at smaller targets they called "mo-skeet" (spelling?). I remember it was difficult!

I think they were Mossberg. Had the target thrower on the side of the barrel.

These rifles didn't have the thrower mounted on them, just on a stand (pipe in the ground) in front of the shooter. Not very big as I recall.

I bought out a gunsmiths estate sale a couple of years ago of all the Stevens Favorite stocks, forearms, barrels receivers and internal parts that he had. One of the barrels was marked ".22 SHOT", as I found when I got back to my shop. At first I thought the barrel was mismarked and should have read .22 Short.
Looking through my Favorite references, sure enough, Stevens made these boys rifles in .22 and .32 rimfire shot versions. This barrel is part octagon and then past the forearm, it becomes round.
Checking the bore with a gauge pin, I found that a 0.217 diameter pin slides in very nicely:

The plan now is to make a combo/switch barrel set with .22 Long Rifle and then this .22 Shot barrel.
