Oklahoma?

I cant get over the value per dollar on homes there. Its a joke what these homes are going for in Az. Good for me tho, I bought low :) 357mag, thank you for all the info! I cant wait to check out the areas there now!

My gf lives in Bixby (next to Broken Arrow) and it's amazing how much house you can buy for the money in those areas.

A varmint hunt in hot summer time around Tulsa might be a tough order. If you don’t have access to private land, you could call some coyotes, or hunt pigs on Wildlife management lands. The SE counties of the state have some big grey squirrels, but you’ll need to head way west for Prairie Dogs. Regulations: https://www.wildlifedepartment.com/Magazine/2019_2020_Hunting_Guide/

You can pick up an F-class match next weekend or an XTC or Silhouette match the following weekend at Red Castle, just contact the MD for particulars before hand. https://www.tulsaredcastlegunclub.com/calendar2.php

We’ve got some nice State parks, with plenty of hiking, and lots of fishing. The Wichita Mountains in Comanche county (SW corner) is a nice gem and a place to spend a day or two. Again, more hiking, bouldering, fishing.

Oklahoma, I believe, has some Elk hunting down in the Wichita mtns. Draw only, and you only get one per lifetime, IIRC. Been a few decades since I lived in OK, so my info might be way out of date.

Still have friends and relatives down there, so make it there a few times a year.

I live in Tulsa. I would tell you to pass on through and don't even stop for gas.

There are no varmints in and around Tulsa except for some feral hogs and city coyotes that you can't hunt.

This used to be a beautiful nice city. I grew up here. It's a God forsaken third world city now. And it's being overrun by Yankees and communists.

You asked.

wow really?

Lived in Chicago. Escaped to Oklahoma. Haven’t been back to Chicago once.

Yeah, I never fit in there.

Sure there are prettier states with four distinct seasons and with weather that isn’t a full-blown sport in itself. (There was one day last year with wildfires, snow and a tornado, all in the same 24 hours. True story.)

But I absolutely love it here. Wonderful place to raise a family, buy land and do whatever you want with it without permits or environmental impact studies or any of that yank nonsense. Awesome place to enjoy Constitutional rights.

True, for as small as it is, Tulsa has way too many murders at 55 or so a year and is generally run by idiots . But my gosh, so many instances where the intended victim pulls a gun and lives to tell about it, something that pretty much NEVER happened in the Windy City.

There is TONS of natural diversity here, much of it already mentioned. Beautiful pine forests and rolling hills (Oauchita Mountains) in the SE, hardwood forests and crystal clear streams in the NE, Wichita Mountains in the SW, 4500’ high prairie in the Panhandle. We border AR, NM, CO and other states too.

Ridiculously abundant game with whitetail, mulies, elk, pronghorn, bear, cougar (not supposed to shoot these though), turkey, feral hogs. I think you can harvest six deer a year in most areas? As mentioned by others though, not a lot of LR varminting unless you know where to look.

But the best part is the people. I was in a horrific accident, should not have survived. It was on a highway that I thought didn’t have much traffic. EVERYONE stopped to help. People jumped into action to help a dying complete stranger. True Good Samaritans. Had the same wreck happened in Chicago, I’d have been left for dead.

I say go for it. Move to Oklahoma and look up some of us. We’d love to meet you and show you around.

I've lived in Oklahoma for 71 years minus a summer or two in my college years. I've lived in Broken Arrow for the last 40 years. When I first moved to BA, it was just a real nice small town. Now......Meh! Main Street, Rose District, is nothing but eateries. Its an OK place to live but just got to commercial. As far as hunting, lots of public land available and the deer hunting is decent. Varmint hunting is probably better towards the panhandle area but you can still kill a coyote or two on public lands. As for shooting, Red Castle is a nice range that hold several different types of matchs all year long. Then there is Oil Capitol. Its a nice club also. I am rifle chairman at North American Aerospace Rod and Gun Club which I think is the best club around but I might be a little partial to it. LOL! As for weather, winters are usually mild and summers are hot. I grew up with tornado's so they don't bother me much. Not that they aren't dangerous, they just don't bother me that much. All in all, Oklahoma isn't a bad place to grow up and grow old, raise your kids, enjoy life. There are worse places to live I'm sure.

You said it well! A good place all around. Surely others just as good but you will have to look hard.
Ticks, chiggers, sand burrs. Summer is great.
Even the big rat snakes are friendly.

Well I really appreciate all the feedback, its been very helpful. Were mostly looking to get out of Az here soon. Its not a bad place by any means, but Im from Pa and I miss grass and trees. But no way Im going back to pa way too many people.

I lived in Sayre for many years. There's still some prairie dogs out around the Mangum to Hollis area. Shooting coyotes in that Oklahoma wind teaches you real quick how to read it. Getting out of bed, I could always tell which direction the wind was blowing from by the whistle off the rain gutters.

Oklahoma used to be a nice Red state, but it has become Purple as all the Liberal Communist Democrats fled the East & West coast and moved in. Unfortunately, they brought their Liberal , Socialistic minded politics and ways with them and for us real native Okies it is really beginning to be irritating. If you don't like Donald Trump keep on movin', Oklahoma doesn't want you.
