oil cloth for wiping down your firearms

How do you make an oil cloth ? I bought a Rem oil cloth and it is so saturated with oil that it makes a big mess.

maybe not what you are talking about, but I use heavy cotton T shirts, old worn out, cut up and put in some semi heavy oil on the rag. Better even are my red cotton, gas station rags with oil. Rem oil is too thin. I have used knife honing oil on some rags. white cotton photography gloves work great too.

A lot of gun shops/ sporting goods stores carry a product called Rusteprufe
The small jar has a chamois, about 3x3", that is saturated with oil. I have used them for years.
Or, go to the auto parts store and buy a Chamois and make a bunch of them. Just saturate them with your favorite gun oil, repurpose some small chopped garlic bottles, and you are set.

I made some recently using some smaller thinner microfibre towels that my wife bought bulk in a box to clean house with.
I just squirted several streaks across the towels with my clenz-oil and rolled the towel in my hands some. Then I folded towel up neatly and put in a ziplock bag and oil will distribute itself evenly in a few days.

1. Go to a fabric store and purchase about a 1/2 yard of 100% pure cotton flannel.

2. Cut a 12 to 15" square. Lay flat of a table. Drizzle Hoppe's Gun Oil (Mineral Oil) in about four rows. Fold the cloth a few times then wring it between your hands distributing the oil throughout the cloth.

3. Replenish oil periodically.

This places a light protective coat of safe oil on the firearm without over doing it. I have found nothing better. It also produces a pleasing sheen of the surface. The cotton flannel is 100% non-abrasive.

Saturate a flannel rag with your favourite oil and hay presto you just saved some money and gained some common sense .
It has worked for me for more than 40 years.

Funny; the ones I bought a while back are so dry I have to spray them down with aerosol RemOil to get them to do any good.

6x6 piece of flannel shirt. Place in a small contained. Drip on some 3n1 oil or other oil of your choice. Let set and soak it up. Do not get it too wet. Monitor that it is not getting hot and possible spontaneously combusting.

Any soft lint free cloth will work just fine, choose your oil, add enough so you're satisfied with result, store in zip lock bag, refresh oil as needed.

Sprayed a small cotton rag liberally with WD 40. Been using same rag for years without adding anything. Keep in a ziplock.
