Oil & Bullets

I was watching a BR shooter at the range, when he caught my eye when he was putting a "light" coat of oil on his bullets.,30-BR) Said it would help from getting copper in the barrel and make it better from high pressure. "Is this true"?

The Flashpoint of the oil would seem critical as the pressure and the heat of the combustion could ignite the light oil coating before it ever lubricated the bore to reduce copper fouling. As for pressure, it might make a tighter seal between the bore and bullet if the oil seals the gaps between the grooves and bullet before it is totally engraved and expands itself. Again the pressue, friction, and heat of the combustion process would probably be a factor in the actual effectiveness of this process. It would seem that everything this oil coating is supposed to do Moly or Boron Nitride coatings do already and probably with better results..
