Quick poll for all you’z people that have spent the cash already. I need to buy a generator to power my construction site / new home build. I don’t have power to the property yet and I need to get started on things. I need a 220v capability to power my well, as well as a smattering of 120v lighting and general tools on the job site. This will not likely be my permanent residence back up power supply, but something to get me through building my new home and shop. I’m looking at a 12,500watt generac. But there’s so many brands and companies making the same products, I don’t know whose is actually making a decent product. It doesn’t need to last a lifetime, but it’s going to get put to hard use.
Thanks in advance!

Generac LP5500 portable propane, if you need more power then get 2, at $799 it’s much cheaper than the 12,500 and probably easier on fuel.

A gas powered welder like a Miller Bobcat or a Lincoln Ranger, should have plenty of power for your construction site and have a LOT better resale value when you are done with it. Be aware any portable power unit will burn a bunch of fuel. If it is going to be a long term use consider a diesel.

I don’t know how much merrit the intel has, but they advertise that the LP5500 will run about 5 hours on a 20lb bottle. VS something like the Westinghouse 14,500 that runs allegedly runs 12 hours on 9 gallons.

9 gallons = 27 $ for ~ 12 hours of run time
2x 20lb propane= 25$ for ~ 10 hours run time

Looks like a wash. With the advantage to the Westinghouse for more power. But all those numbers are theoretical and load dependent of course.

Thanks for the idea.
