Oehler 35P

I visited the Oehler Research, Inc booth at the Shot Show last week and had a long talk with Dr. Ken Oehler. The good news is they still have Model 35P's available for sale. If you want one now is the time.

I have one of the original 35's before they offered a printer option. I bought it at McBride's Gunshop in Austin, TX where they are made. I'll bet is one of the 1st ones made and it still works great, although I have changed skyscreens.

We just put up an interview with Dr. Ken Oehler on the Daily Bulletin. You'll also find some tech tips on how to load and feed the paper into the 35P's printer.

I to am still using my old Model 33 and my friend has the 35P, they are both outstanding chronographs and have served us well for a long, long, time. I bought an extra set of sky screens with the orange diffusers as the old venetian blind diffusers gave up the ghost. Using the chronograph is the fastest way to adjust your favorite load when changing powder lots and can saave a whole lot of wasted shots down the tube.

Steve Blair posted this comment in response to the aritcle on the Daily Bulletin:

The 35P was a great chronograph in its day, I owned one. But the design is old and lacks several features that should be considered mandatory today. (i.e.: infrared screens, faster clock rate and computer interface)

If retaining paper is the preferred archiving method, the 35P will do a good job. I do not retain paper targets and store all data in digital format. For those who wish to use digital storage, ignore lighting conditions and have higher confidence in the recorded velocity, the 35P is not the best choice.

I'd like to know what device he's talking about, which makes the Oehler 35p look like a dinosaur?

Not trying to be an ***, I really want to know...

I am gonna guess he is talking about the PVM-21 from Neco.

For what that costs ($749.95) you can buy a couple CED devices ($199.00)

- and accessories to expand their capabilities for indoor use. They also permit data export to PC.

The PVM-21 works with QuickLOAD & QuickDESIGN software, not real sure other products export info in a compatible format.
