Odd question for mcmillian kestros use

So I bought a mcmillian kestros off a member on here. I was going to do an f class build in 6br, and now im going a totally different route by having a 30 br built for 100/200 yard bench/prone shooting.

No competing, other than shooting with friends on the weekends. Anyone ever use an f class stock for bench or prone shooting at short range like 100/200 yards? Did it effect you in any way good or bad?

I see guys with BR rifles on here that look like f class stocks, thats why I ask. By the way, forgive my stupidity with these questions.

The Kestros has a flat bottom at the rear of the stock.
I understand you are not competing, but it is good to know how you stand re other benchrest guns.
Nbrsa rules say it must have a minimum specific angle. I suspect it does not meet short range rules.
see RULES see #14 ( page 35)

I am guessing the Kestros will work fine for your purposes.

Thanks. I may look into trying somthing else. I really like the way the kestros feels though. Ive raised the question at our clubhouse of why we dont even have informal competitions. I dont think they care. Thats why I just compete with friends and have no limits.

I have two Kestros stocks. One is the standard one with an adjustable cheek piece and three way adjustable butt. The other is a Kestros BR, basically the same as my other one back to the action tang and and an Edge from there on back to the butt. You did not say whether you plan on doing your prone shooting from a bipod or rest, but if it is a rest, you will find that regular rests with windage tops will make it difficult to adjust the windage using the top in prone position, that is if you want to take advantage of the length of the forearm which is IMO an advantage. There are a couple of works arounds (for rests), one is to use a rest that has both windage and elevation adjustments at the rear of the rest. The Sinclair Competition rest would be the best example of this I can think of. The other option would be some sort of Joy stick or coaxial rest. These are very popular in F Open. In my case, I happen to have a first model 21st Century rest that has a plate that allows the front bag to be offset forward of the center of the rest. It also has the windage built into the base. With this rest I can stay behind the rifle and adjust the rest.

@BoydAllen thats what mine is. Plain kestros with adjustable cheek piece and 3 way adjustable butt plate. I have a bald eagle front rest, and I'm going to get a shadetree top for it I think. The sinclair rest sounds interesting though. Thabks for the reply!

On mine, that is like yours, I fitted it with 1.5" tall rings so that, shooting from a bench, I can keep my face off of the stock if I want, and raise the cheek piece if I want contact. I used the Burris tactical rings with the self aligning inserts. Another option that I have seen seen pictures of is shooters simply removing the cheekpiece and laying a cloth over the stock.

Awesome! I will check those out. Couple days ago i tried 1" tall rings and it felt good from both bench and prone. So I imagine 1.5 will be perfect.

Here is the deal for trying a ring height on the cheap. If you own a lapping bar, you can buy the cheapest Chinese Picatinny rings of the height that you want to try, lap them on the rifle that you are trying them on, and then figure out if you like the height. (example below) If you understand that for this sort of evaluation you don't really need your fancy 30mm scope, these have plastic reducing inserts, which means that for this purpose, for a 1" scope, you would not even have to lap.
