I was digging around in the dark corners of my storage space just off my loading room and found another batch (400) of LC 5.56 brass. Years ago I had gotten a really good deal (as in free) on a five-gallon bucket of them and divided them up into smaller boxes to give to friends and for storage. Obviously I had forgotten these. All are LC 84 and 87. Bored, I decided to prep them. After sizing, trimming and doing a skim-cut to the necks, followed by a good cleaning, I started priming them and sorting by year. In the process, I found three pieces with a head-stamp I've never encountered before. They were stamped MAL, 5.56, 12-84. A quick Google revealed that they were of Malaysian manufacture as a sub-contractor for NATO munitions (9mm Parabellum, 5.56mm NATO, 7.62mm NATO, and .50 Browning Machine-Gun) to British specifications. 12 indicates December and 84 is the year of manufacture.
I've loaded a pretty fair number of .223/5.56 cartridges over the years from LC to IMI as well as a couple of commercial vendors, but this is the first time I have ever run across this head-stamp. Probably a common occurrence to many of you, but I thought it was interesting.
