Odd Cracks in Barrel

Hey guys. So I got a Teslong borescope and decided to check out some of my barrels with it. One of them was my problematic .22BR that I haven’t been able to get to shoot consistently. There was some very very minor fire cracking in the first 1/2 inch of barrel, but it has roughly 250 shots on it so that’s to be expected. However, from the muzzle and back about 4” there’s some really weird cracks in the barrel. I took a couple photos to show you guys. I can see them with the naked eye and a flashlight. I was curious if anyone knows what these are? Thanks 7FBB88ED-4AD4-418F-B3F7-B9E342D4D0AE.jpegA986F126-6AFB-4B03-ACB8-8BE40DB16BF6.jpegD65D86DA-2B24-4225-BF90-AC11F3A98837.jpeg8AFB0225-1B6A-445A-8D48-2D0D43B04932.jpeg8AFB0225-1B6A-445A-8D48-2D0D43B04932.jpeg

I'm no expert but I have seen lint as in cleaning patch lint look similar in a Teslong pic. Also appears like you have a bit of a copper mine going on. Edit: you said that they are visible to the naked eye. That rules out lint.

Yeah. This barrel hasn’t been the best. I cleaned it about 50 shots ago. I cleaned it with Boretech until the patches came out clean of blue. Not sure why it would copper foul so bad. It’s a cut rifled custom barrel.

I’m no expert but I call those “worm tracks”. Don t know if it is inclusions in the metal or what but I have an old 22-250 that has so much of that as well as major pitting from severe neglect over the years that you wouldn’t think the gun could hit a bus at 50 yards. It consistently shoots .5 MOA and I’m not a great shot compared to most on here. I now use my teslong to confirm cleaning and I don’t worry about the rest. Lol

Do you clean every time you use it?

What powder do you shoot in this barrel? How far up the barrel is this 'worm'?

We know that there are bacteria that consumes iron and steel . . . even stainless steel. From the looks of this kind of corrosion, it makes me think it could be some type of bacteria at work . . . ???

What you don't know from the photos is how deep those are, but I can say without a doubt they are not nearly as deep as they look. Nothing seen through a bore scope is. It's not unlikely that if you could get a fingertip on them you wouldn't be able to feel them. I've got a hunting barrel with similar artifacts that shoots fine. Would it shoot a better without them? I'll never know.

Every non-hammer-forged factory-made barrel I own shows those. The consistency leads me to think they they are inclusions in the steel blank.

Hammer-forged (Remington) barrels show a similar thing, but they appear closed.
