OCW and Ladder Testing Combinded/Anyone done it???

Just curious as to anyone who has done a OCW test. Then taking that info and doing it at distance in the last step of ladder testing at distances beyond 300yards. Did you accuracy node hold true? What did you find? Any info would be great.

You mean like 38gr. H380 in a 22-250 with 40-55 gr. bullets, or 30 gr. Of Varget in a 6BR with 80-108's.

Try this. Great acticle and it works well for me!

I think that there is something to both OBT and OCW. In the testing I have done, there is clearly a vibration component that can be tuned with charge weight and seating depth. I rarely find that sweet spot where my chronon is giving the best ES but it will be close, maybe one ladder step in either direction. That suggests that there is something other than the barrel vibration tune which could be due to some other ocscillation such as what Chris Long talks about. Some believe that barrel tuners can bring both into synch so that the best ES is coincident with the barrel harmonics. I have a barrel tuner I plan to use to test that theory but I belive that there is something to it.

deadlyswift, that is the method I used for developing my current load. I found a good load, however it takes 3 trips to the range to find it. Plus you have to have a range with some distance. It seems the OCW method may be an alternative for individuals who cant get to the range that often or have the time.

Tony, thank you for the input.

I like the concept in OCW of shooting "round robin". Rather than shooting 5 rounds of each load with a progressively heating barrel, by shooting one from each powder load at several different targets, letting the barrel cool, and repeating for the 2nd, 3rd, and so on until finished, the separate targets will show the results of shots at the approximately the same point in the barrel heat buildup process. In other words, all 5 shots on the first target will be from a cool barrel, and all shots on the last target from the warm barrel.

I've found that this yields the best information for my rifle.

Just to set the record straight a 'ladder test" is not five shots but ONE shot per charge weight or 1/3rd the amount of fired shots in an OCW.

Beyond that point I've fired hundreds of Audette ladders. What I've learned is fairly simple if one cares to beleive. An Audette will show you time and time again where your gun wants to shoot. If in reality it will not group in that charge range theres but three possibilities.
Your bore does not like that powder.
Seating depth is not correct.
Primer is not correct.

OK, seating depth changes are almost a given.
Bores appreciation for a particular fouling state is always a given but widely overlooked.
Primers can have drastic effects on any given load. If you haven't noticed that then your not lookingt.
