What is the advantage of a 50mm obj as opposed to a 40 ? A 30mm Tube as opposed to a 1inch tube? Thanks

Some 30mm scope's have more correction built into the turret's.

The 50mm objective will give you a slightly brighter image if you shoot at dusk, or very high powers - the 30mm tube will give you more elevation/windage adjustment.

For many shooters, the whole point is bigger is better, whether or not there is any advantage for their application or not. Adjustment range is fine...if you need it, and the same is true for low light performance, but for the shooting that I do, these are not areas where scopes with smaller diameter objectives and tubes give me problems. I am mostly concerned with the accuracy of the turrets, and that the target image be sufficiently sharp to see what I am shooting well enough to do the best possible job of aiming. If these two requirements are met, and there is reasonable durability, I am a happy camper.

The down side of 50mm objectives is that mirage is worse for any given shooting condition.
