Obermeyer Barrels

R=Russian. The Russians invented it for their Olympic rifles.

Many years ago when "Boots just finished his training for gunsmithing, he was still at his parents "sporting Goods" store here in Racine, WI. He had some items for sale in the counter. One was a tang sight for some lever gun , a chamfering tool made FOR RCBS, ( by L.E.Wilson) and marked as such, and a small red round container of BB caps from Stoeger arms. I only bought the tang because it was a piece of history, as were the BB caps. Sold the tang and still use the chamferring tool. When I go into my cabinet, those BB caps are still there. memories...

I still have my chamfering marked that way.

Not only did Mr.Barrett Obermeyer make the best barrels. He taught many of us here in U.S.many things and world wide also.Shot alot at our local club in Lodi Wis.
He could shoot....competed every year at Camp Perry and traveled extensively worldwide competeing.Won alot.Highly intellegent and THE most knowledgeable man in the shooting sports I have ever known. And would share...made barrels from .17-40MM.The man was a walking set of encyclopedias..

Boots built all my barrels for years and I won lots trash using them! In 1995 I placed 7th overall in the long range championship at Perry with no practice as my ass had been glued to the seat of an ag plane all year up until day I left for Perry! I hope Boots is well and ok!

Just punched Boots name in and this came up.
I believe I have the most complicated barrel he ever made. 30" in .375 with a full length milled rib, a milled quarter rib on top of that, a milled ramp front, and a milled under lug. 1:12" twist.
I was planning my first trip to Africa (Zimbabwe as it worked out) and wanted a 375 N&N to go with my 3" .500 NE double rifle. Nine months lead time, and a chance to go to Zim for Cape Buffalo came up on six weeks notice. I caved, bought a CZ in 450 Rigby. A rechambered 458 WM barrel from Wayne Jacobsen fitted to what was once a 375 H&H. I put it on a shelf, and forgot I even had it until today. I just bought a new, never barreled SAKO AV action. I think it's going to be a RUM, to sit next to the 458/375 RUM on an OM 70 I had built for my second trip to Africa.

Life is good,

Obermeyer barrels are Great! I don't think Boots or his shop did the integral machining though.
Wayne is a great guy to do business!
