NRA Restructuring and Moving to Texas

I am willing to give them the time to turn the ship around, they heard loud and clear our grievances this past year all this hate talk about the NRA is making me sick. divided gun owners is a liberals dream. Just dont jump ship yet there listening to what were talking about.

Back in 1978 a good friend’s father, also the man who taught me how hand load ammo, bought me a life membership to the NRA. When I contacted the NRA last year as to why they keep sending me emails asking me to join, I called and told them that I was a life member, but I was told that they do not have me listed as such. I lost my certificate of membership a long time ago, so I had only the name of my benefactor, but that wasn’t good enough for them. How many other people has the NRA lost membership do to their incompetence. Ever since the NRA forced out anyone looking into their lavish lifestyle funded by their membership, I knew that the NRA’s top management were only in it to support their lavish lifestyle. I donate to the GOA.

Turn the ship around? Weren't they founded in 1871? Is that not enough time?

Yes, more than hyperbolic, but with the influx of cash they had during the Obama years and the Hilary scare there is literally no excuse for their financial ineptitude. The lack of financial clarity is also more than a little disturbing.

With that said, I will be a member going forward if for no other reason than what they provide.... mainly lobbying power, is exactly what we'll need the next 4 years. Who knows after that but with all the pending House Resolutions we're screwed without them!

Yep, Ole Wayne will probably love to move to one of our beautiful Leftist / Socialist cities and set up shop with people just like him in Dallas, Houston, Austin, or San Antonio.

I have been a Life member of the NRA since the 70's, and used to be a Proud member. That stopped when Wayne and all his thieving buddies got in control of things there.
I fully support the TSRA and GOA, but no longer the NRA.

There are 2 NRA's one can be in politics and is a 501(c)(4). The NRA Foundation is the 501(c)(3) Non profit. Anything to get out of NYS, I think it is a good move. Hopefully they will reorganize.

what a lot of guys dont understand is the NRA wants anti gun bills to pass so they can hit members up for money. if there were no anti gunner politicians what would they do? the fake right has been losing every battle for 50 years cause the grifters on the right are same as preachers who loot their flock. all the "right" wing talk show hosts tv stars politicians believe in nothing but money and fame like WLP

you sound an alful lot like a left wing nut-job

Way back when the NRA was founded in 1871, it made some sense to incorporate in NY. The center of the population was near there. The national championships were held at Sandy Hook right across from NYC. The founders were two New Yorkers. So it made sense then. It no longer makes sense.

I'm not so sure about that. I think the spirit of his argument is spot on.

The NRA of today thrives off "sabre rattling"; they leverage fear (which is certainly legitimate in 2021 ) to drive donations. They're probably going to financially benefit quite a bit from the Democrats controlling the govt.

In 2016-2018 Republicans held the House, Senate, and Presidency; what pro-gun legislation did the NRA drive? In 2018-2020 Republicans had the Senate and Presidency. So far as I'm aware the only change of significance was we arbitrarily labeled bump-stocks as machine guns, despite not fitting the technical definition. (I don't own one, nor do I have any interest in them).

That entire time I was getting mailers about Pelosi, Schumer, and AOC wanting to take my guns etc. With what power or authority? They were impotent (at a national level) during that timeframe.

Meanwhile you have Ollie North in there exposing all of the self-enrichment and financial maleficence from NRA leadership, and in return he gets booted out and slandered in the process. WLP is and was using the NRA member donations as a slush fund for a lavish lifestyle (trips across the country for non-business activities) in private jets, nearly a half mil in expensive suits, private mansions, etc). I might even accept that if there was even a feigned attempt at getting HPA passed, or national reciprocity.

The reality is the NRA isn't what it used to be, and arguably doesn't really represent our interests beyond occasionally paying lip service to whip it's user base into donating more funds.

It's not beyond repair, but it's never going to return to representing our interests with WLP at the helm. He and those loyal to him on the board are the problem.

We can fix the NRA. We need a healthy NRA. We just can't do it with the current leadership. There's nothing wrong with admitting that. In fact it's the first step in solving the problem.

No offense to any Texans out there (I have family there BTW), a move to Texas makes sense for now but how long until the state flips and they’re run out of there? I would have moved to a more red state ( ID, WY, OK) or at least a stale red state, not one trending as should be expected with millions of CA imports every year. I get it though, if you can’t be in NY or CA, in terms of money and influence, TX is your best bet.

And in regards to the NRA being long overdue for an extreme makeover, I couldn’t agree more. I don’t want them gone and I don’t them scrapped altogether, but they seemed much more trustworthy in the Charleston Heston or Oliver North days.

The leadership led to abuses and failures, moving to Texas with out changing the entire leadership will just mean more of the same. Is the leadership just trying to avoid financial audits? Always "follow the money". Most charitable (501) organizations salaries are much, much lower than Wayne's. Salaries are not in the millions and expenses are closely watched. He, the auditor, the comptroller and the entire board of directors need to be replaced. All the NRA leaders have a severe lack of ethics and integrity. No oversite or collusion is the problem. The selection of board members has been "fixed" for many years. Qualified "outsiders" have never been able to run. Input from members is completely ignored. I'm a former life member, when I dropped my membership by letter, I didn't receive a response or acknowledgement. I did get a couple of requests for funds.

Personally, I would like to know just exactly how much Wayne has been compensated, and what expenses and perks he has been given, along with any retirement, and provision for a golden parachute. Also, how much NRA money has been spent to keep himself in his position? From what I have heard, this has gotten entirely out of hand.
This is what the NY AG is seeking and why Wayne wants out of NY so he can shut down the inquiry and continue in his ways. I like many others I haven't contributed for quite some time and won't contribute any more until he's gone.
