NRA Distinguished Rifleman?

I knew this would get mis-interpreted but I'm not sure how to say it more clearly.
If there is a distinguished program then those guys deserve to receive the designation.
I don't really see the value added of an additional program to recognize the elite who are already recognized as the elite in other ways.
It's not at all a big deal to me, just throwing out my opinion.

You can make high master and never finish near the top of state or higher level matches. This award recognizes those who can perform in the top x% of the big matches, regardless of classification.

Maybe thats a better way to look at it.

The value of this program was to shore up the declining numbers of NRA High Power Shooters. Many have reached the CMP distinguished award and were pushing into other directions with palma and match rifle.

The value to the bullseye challenged, is to participate with the better shooters whereas they can leave and observe how to shoot match winning scores. Other than a certificate and a badge worth $10, most of the elite will have to turn to their 401K's that were pumped up so dramatically during the plump years with there were 10's of thousands of dollars at stack, or maybe just 10's.

If anybody is genuinely confused confused I used 'rich get richer' as a metaphor for receiving multiple awards or recognitions for the same excellent performances. I never had actual money in mind at all.
Understood... I brought up costs only because I have participated in a sporting hobby that required great expenses for the best of the best equipment to consider being on the podium. Of course just the best equipment would not get you there but definitely required even if you had the most talent. In HP shooting the costs are there but the middle of the road equipment can get you to High Master classification or on top in a match with the proper preparation and skill. This is one of the great appeals of this sport to me. I think that a DR recognition puts one more goal to aim for (no pun intended) once one receives HM in their discipline.

I see your point. I agree in part. The HM card is a worthy goal and is a major accomplishment to get. That said, there are a lot of HM in this game and the next goal would to be winning matches. It is a BIG jump! There does need to be something in between that isn't easy to get, but isn't as fleeting as winning a match.

The beauty of our sport is that it does not take the most expensive equipment to win. It takes the best judgement based on experience, meticulous detail to techniques and a lot of time; this is duly earned by dedication to the endeavor. You want to be in the top 10% and earn the DR Badge......then get out, do the work and be in the top ten.

Wow!!! You’re not going to win any elections talking like that.

I understand what you're saying. of course the Brandon Green types will go Distinguished and who knows if it will really mean much to them. going Distinguished through the CMP doesn't mean much to some shooters butit does to many others. I think it will ignite a spark for the guy who is an upper level Master or a lower level Highmaster that is on the edge of being able to earn steps on a national level. it's sort of like how the CMP made making Highmaster harder by needing to average 98% instead of the NRA's 97.5%. it makes you work a little harder and keeps things interesting.

Just for information the rules will be put up on the NRA web site as changes to the rulebook. Can't say exactly when but soon.

I want to reopen this discussion with a few questions.
1. Do we know yet if, and where these points are being tracked?
2. Last year, FTR and F open were separate, it would appear that this year, they are not. How in the world is a FTR shooter supposed to get points competiting with F open?
3. Did this year's national's count towards these points? Not that I would have gotten them, but I heard no mention of it.

Jay, I found that list early this spring. Unfortunately I can't remember where it was. I suck at internet searches so it could not have been hard. Not sure about anyone else, I do remember I was on the top of the list with 19 points. Should have gotten to 20 after Canada.

I did find out they have a new program for master coaches the other day tho! When I opened the package from the NRA there was a medal and a lapel pin. A very nice medal I might add. No explanation or certificate or anything else in the envelope. I had to ask a few people to find out what is was. Trudy Faye got one also and had no idea what it was for. As I understand it you need 40 pts to get one. All must come from nationals matches. 20 pts for first place in a match. Not agg just a match. Less pts for second and third. You need to win two matches etc. to get one. Found nothing on NRA website. Talked to Earl Liebetrau and James Crofts to find out. I guess it helps to know people! Otherwise you will be SOL until they call your name Jay! Maybe Larry Bart can tell us, he knows everything!

It's just the way it is with F-T/R..... This year I was high TR at a fullbore regional. No go as it went to top open guys. I was high TR at State Midrange. No go again. It is what it is. And even if you get a step like I did at State Fullbore in TR(long story how that happened), it really doesn't mean crap because at the Nationals this year, Ian Klemm's 1161 wouldn't even make the first page in F open so no way he will be in top 10% even though he's the national TR champ.

But again, we T/R guys are used to not feeling the love so i just try to beat as many F-open guys as I can for kicks

I think we need to have a petition or someone of influence possibly address this with the NRA. I'm one of the lucky ones I guess and got a mid range step at nationals when they handed them out for both. But I honestly don't think it's being tracked anyway, nor did they even give steps this year.

Bobby - you need to get out a little more, like Facebook. hahahahahaha. Congratulations on your Coaching Medal. You deserve it!

I knew Larry Bart would have the answer, he always does. Thanks Shiraz, Not a facebook guy, don't tweet either, This is all I can handle, the interweb and google machine.

So, back to the question of who tracks is and is there a public list somewhere?

If F-O and F-TR are really grouped together I've got a whole tirade in another thrread that I can cut and paste and add that to it.
