NRA Distinguished Rifleman?

This new setup is still in its infancy and I have not seen any accumulation of points anywhere. One of the issues is that match directors must specify that the match or particular aggregate stage of a match will be put forward for this award. So just because you shoot a Regional or State championship (and who knows about the Nationals) doesn't mean that your score will automatically be qualified for this award, unless the match director or official states beforehand and submits the scores afterwards. I would have hoped that it would have qualified automatically but it is not. If you know of Regional or State championships being held, press the match director to specify that it be applied to this NRA Distinguished award (if the aggregate qualifies in the course to be shot).

Looks like it will be easier than CMP...other than the Nationals requirement.

You have to be in the top 10% of all shooters, not just non-distinguished. I think thst part would make it much more difficult than the CMP program.

It’ll be a lot harder. You’ll have to beat the already distinguished shooters, earn at least one leg at Nationals, and can only shoot 2 matches per year that will count, vs 5 for CMP.

Actually it will be a lot harder to go NRA distinguished. We all know that you can pretty much leg out in CMP Service rifle at the Master class level against the other non distinguished shooters.
NRA distinguished you have to be the top 10% for all shooters to include folks like Brandon Green, John Widden, Carl Bernousky, David Tubb, Ect ect. For the most part you better be a High Master shooter and at the top of that High Master class at that.

Which makes it that much more of an honor! I know that the NRA has a big push going on right now to get all the national records, etc. settled. I'm feeling a bit better about how this one will play out over the next year or so.

In my feeble little mind, I don't want honors to be participation awards.

Agreed(not the feeble part).

I'm also not sure of the value of a rich-get-richer honor for the elite who are already high-masters and competing for wins in big tournaments.

I'm not sure that's a fair characterization (rich-get-richer) - are you saying that the "elite" who put in the time and effort to become "elite" aren't deserving because they are already high masters and winning? Or did I mis-read you? I'm pretty sure none of them inherited their status as elites and HM shooters... :)

Yeah, we need to get rid of this ridiculous system where only the best shooters win. It's just not fair to the guys who aren't very good, or just don't feel like working very hard at it. We should make some awards for those poor guys too. I bet we could get a lot more millennials into the shooting sports that way!

The beauty of our sport is that it does not take the most expensive equipment to win. It takes the best judgement based on experience, meticulous detail to techniques and a lot of time; this is duly earned by dedication to the endeavor. You want to be in the top 10% and earn the DR Badge......then get out, do the work and be in the top ten.

Actually Jay, I just sent a bunch of extra money and a SASE in with my NRA renewal, and they sent me a stack of HM cards. Nothing to it!
