NRA Classification

Would someone explain to me how reclassifications are computed?

I've looked over my scores from the last 3 matches and I should be moving up to either Expert or Master. It will depend on how the use my scores. I know it takes 120 shots to reclassify. Do they use only my final 120? Or, if the 120 falls in the middle of a match, do they use the whole match?

They use the whole match. Scores go in as a match total and reclassification can be affected by the order in which they are received. It's an inexact process, so don't hang your hat on three specific matches in a certain order. It would be better - a lot better - but unfortunately the NRA gives fairly low priority to the competitions department.

I guess that would have to be a rolling average. My last 120 shots were at 96.46%, .04 short of Master. I'll just have to be patient and see what they come up with.

Supposedly now it's a rolling average. Some ears ago when it was a more manual process, they would look at three scores and reclassify (if appropriate) or toss them and you'd start over for the next three. It could be pretty frustrating!

Still sandbaggin in the Sharp shooter class? Dont expect a Classification card until about aug or september. Keep checking the NRA clasification look up on there web site in the link below. I noticed that it shows up there before it comes in the mail.

I Think German had his last classification card up date shooting the 03 springfield on the 5V target.. : )
Oh wait Ibet you got one for FTR now?

I keep catching grief over that SharpShooter thing!

My second match was the Mississippi State Championship last October and I received my SharpShooter classification on 12-06-2011. The West Tennessee regional was my 5th match and gave me enough shots for record to reclassify. I'm very close to Master. It will depend on how they figure it. According to German, I'll be a high Expert. I guess I'll still get accused of sandbagging! That's ok as long as I get to shoot!

If we didnt give you a hard time then that means we dont like you! Havnt seen a shooter in High Power coming up the ranks not get a little grief. Its all part of the fun and (sp?)comrodery. ;D

You have all summer to get that card. ;)

Russ, you're right, I got a couple of F Class cards recently (mid-range and long-range). They even sent me some stickers with them, that was a new thing!

No problem here! I'd rather get razzed on the way up than the way down!

German, I got some stickers with my Sharpshooter card. I decided I'd wait until I got Master to put stickers on stuff!

Be proud of that Sharpshooter classification - at least you aren't a lifetime Marksman! Anyway, the Expert card will come before you know it.

That's kind of an old way of ribbing someone that might bear a little explanation. The NRA used to give a Lifetime Master classification (on request). This was before there was a High Master classification and it meant that you were secure enough in your ability that you would never need to be reclassified downward (not that many people request a downward move, but it happens). Naturally, some of those shooters who never seemed to move up the ladder were tagged "Lifetime Marksman" by their friends. Anyway, you're now on the road up the hill - congratulations!

I'm enjoying the journey German! I learn so much at each match! Of course, when your knowledge level is so low, it's easy to learn!

German, [br]
Shoot some F-Open Long Range and fix that Master rating. ;) [br]
BTW, I hope to see you next weekend in Phoenix. I will be shooting F-T/R Mid Range and bearding the lion in his den.

Steve, we'll have a good time next week! Remember, if you have the time, that we'll have practice on Thursday and Friday.

I will have to object!!!! Steve, we already have you to worry about now that you started shooting F-Open and you also want us to worry about German? He's the F-T/R's guys problem, let's keep it that way! ;D

I haven't been reclassified since August of last yr, and that was a Marksman class after my first couple of matches.

BTW, in case you didn't realize it F class classifications are require the next level higher score, and the F class target and a 308 make for a difficult time gaining. Shooting F-TR is a bioch.

High power

High Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 97.00 and above
Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 94.00 to 96.99
Expert . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 89.00 to 93.99
Sharpshooter . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 84.00 to 88.99
Marksman . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Below 84.00

F class

High Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 98.00 and above
Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 96.50 to 97.99
Expert . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 94.00 to 96.49
Sharpshooter . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 91.50 to 93.99
Marksman . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Below 91.50

So for Expert in F class you need to be shooting 188s where High Power only needs a 178, or Master F class needs to hold a 193 for 20 shot matched and High Power 188.

Based on the F-TR scores I've seen at most matched it's really hard to maintain a Master classification shooting TR.

Oopps

You forgot to show the Mid Range Classification for Sling shooters. 300,500 and 600 yards. The one you show is for standing sitting and prone and prone rapid fire. Palma and long range still have the same ole classification as you show.
Rule 19.5

INDIVIDUAL MID-RANGE PRONE
High Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 98.50 and above
Master . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 97.00 - 98.49
Expert . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 94.50 - 96.99
Sharpshooter . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 92.00 - 94.49
Marksman . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Below 92.00

So as you can see the HighPower shooter needs a 189 for Expert and a 194 for master class.

Cheers

That is why some members of the US F-TR team hold Expert long range classifications. It is a major problem shooting consistent 193+ scores at 1000 yards. The only way that I know to get the average up enough is to shoot palma events. The 800 yard stage is a point making machine. Lots of times, I see 800 yard scores in the 146-149 range. The 900 yard scores are a bit lower, but the 1000 yard is where scores go into the toilet.

If one is really worried about their classification, I would suggest that they shoot palma matches and skip any 1000 yard additional strings. For me, regardless of what classification I'm shooting in, I'm just shooting to make the best scores I can. Sometimes, I win or place in a match as a result.

There are, in my opinion, too many variables in one's 1000 yard shooting to expect a 223 or 308 to perform to the HM level consistently. Wind is only one issue, I've seen good shooters show up with a rifle that just wont shoot. It happens, allways seems ot happen at the most inopportune time, and does negatively impact the scores that NRA uses for reclassification.

Now for my question:
Does NRA issue separate classifications for Intl Fullbore F-class and Highpower F-class?
