Not Just No, But A Resounding NO!!

Last Spring, several of my fellow shooters and I were discussing NBRSA Varmint for Score, and the conversation soon centered around changing the scoring system to make the existing “X” an “eleven”

this would have little affect on the 100 yard matches, but would possibly have quite a bit of affect at the 200 and 300 yardages.

I polled quite a few shooters in my area and quite a few were in favor of it.

So, at our Region meeting in New Braunfels, it was decided to put it beforeThe Board of Directors for consideration. Or, at the very least, get a discussion going.

I received a text from a fellow shooter that it was discussed at this years NBRSA Score Nationals, and a vote was taken among the the members present.

The issue did not get one affirmative vote from the 50+ members present.

So, that’s that.

Sounds almost as bad as messing with the Schuetzen bunch in New Braunfels, according to one person I know whose been banned from their event for being an outsider (out of towner) and showing up and winning!

Not surprising, old guys don't like change. I was equally surprised when the old guys at my club voted to go to 11 instead of x for all matches. I was shocked. It really opens the game. Makes for more interesting shoots as it keeps more people in the match longer and can allow a comeback from an early mistake. As long as the rules are the same for everyone I am ok with them. I have ran into the outsider rules a time or two, or should I say outsider scoring, lol. Ever notice how guys will voice an opinion until there is some official meeting or vote then they sit there quite and go along with the crowd. Lots of that goes on I have noticed.

Not really.....I just shot a match where they used a 200 yard IBS
Hunter Rifle target placed at 400 yards, and this target has a
center dot, and was scored as an 11. No bitch's and no moans.
All had a good time.

Did the Tack Driver matches count the X's as ones ??
The Tack Driver uses the IBS scoring, the X is the tie breaker.

However, we are shooting at a 200 IBS Score Target at 300 meters.

The object of score shooting is to shot closes to the center of the target, that usually is the X. The shooter who does that the most tlmes in a match and is given the extra polnt should be declared the winner of that match. Also by gaining a point the shooter can make an extra point instad of just loosing points when they hit a 10 or worse. Just my opinion, which doesn't mean much.

I don't know much about the UBR, but I think they have caliber specific targets, and they add the extra point for a X.
I also think it is more popular in the southern states on the east coast, not really taking off in other areas, but I may be mistaken on that.
Variety is a good thing, too bad availability isn't widespread for all to shoot and see what they like better.

With no other changes, they could simply do away with x's and the dot become the 10. There have only been a handful of perfect ubr 100 yard aggs fired since it's inception in 2011.
Again with no other changes, the 30br guys will be happy.

Steve, refer to my post immediately above yours, lol.
Same here on post #7.
I figured anyone who recognized the "quote" didn't need further reference.
Back in the 80's, some people actually believed that was an actual documentary -of a real band.
They're now all employed somewhere in Washington, DC.

2 years ago I took a vote at our monthly shoot to see who would like to go to the 11 point system over the current "X" count type of scoring. The vote was 8 to 7 in favor of keeping the VFS "X" scoring system.
So we have kept it that way, and no one has ever really mentioned it again (except the guy who drops a point on the first or second targets).

Lol! That's why I said what I did a few posts ago. You can call that dot anything you want to but the game becomes harder, not easier, when you give it a point value. Making it a 10 rather than an x is just making the target tougher...a lot tougher. They could use wipeouts for tie breakers, which ubr can't do with caliber neutral targets.
Not telling anyone what they should or shouldn't do. Just pointing out the obvious..stated a little differently maybe.

Besides...isn't UBR already doing this? Yes, and you can be competitive with just about any caliber. It's not about bigger bullet holes. I'll stop there. I think I made my point. That game already exists. Changing to be like UBR? I'm not sure that comes down to much more or less than exactly that, to the other orgs. That alone makes it hard for the die hard members to support. It is what it is. Mostly human nature.

VFS "X" scoring system: 250-0X beats a 249-17X - too high penalty for the "9"
11 point score system: the same two shooters score 250 (0X's) vs 266 (17 - 11's) -too low a penalty for "9"

Is this the correct application of the 11 point system?
