Nosler Ballistic tip bullets -

I’ve first used the Nosler BT 7mm 140 gr when they first were introduced back in 1980s in a 7mm T/CU shot from a 14” Contender when I competed in IHMSA. Loved them as they consistently nocked down the 200 yards rams. Expensive yeah with being chided by of competitors, but 40x40 scores were the end result. I then used the same loading in that same Contender scoped to take a Michigan whitetail at about 150 yards. Deer ran 50 yards before piling up nose first. Later on I used the Nosler BT 7mm 120 gr shot from a Remington XP100 in Rem. 7mmBR and shot another MI whitetail at just shy of 300 yards. Again the deer ran about 50 yards before it died.

Currently I use the Nosler 6mm BT 55 gr shot from my custom Sako Vixan PPC single shot handgun chambered in 6mmPPC USA to hunt woodchucks. Out of the 14” barrel the bullets scoot along at 3,000 FPS MV with 28.2 gr of H-322 set off with a Rem. 7-1/2. Instant kills out too 300 yards.

Used the Nosler .224 BT 50 gr in a Remington PSS in Rem. 223. That rifle and I would shot consistently sub 1/10 MOA.

I find the Nosler BT bullets to very accurate. Well as accurate as the gun they are shot from. All the guns I’ve used Nosler BT in shot 1/2 MOA or better.

I love Ballistic Tips for Varmint hunting, they’ve always been one of the most accurate bullets in my .22-250 and .243. They are also my favorite bullet for WT deer- I’ve used them pretty extensively in the 7mm-08, .270 Weatherby, .30-06, .300 Winchester, and probably a few more that I’m forgetting. I’ve had no issues with them blowing up even after hitting bone- and I agree with everyone that you should try to not hit the shoulder if you’re trying to save meat, but that’s the case with any bullet.

For the fellow that was asked about the 130-grain bullet in the .270 WSM, I went over 3500 FPS with that bullet in my .270 Weatherby- I did not hit any bone with that bullet on the few deer I killed with that load, but it killed the deer very quickly (duh!) and did not ruin more meat than any other bullet would have going that speed. At least 2 of the deer were under 100 yards, as well.

Is hot two does from the exact same blind in basically the same spot 150 yard shot.
- I shot 1 with a 140g Nosler BT handload in my 6,5CM with a high shoulder shot. It literally collapsed right there.
- The factory 143g ELDX Hornady Precision Hunter - about 1/2 inch lower - ran about 20 yards.
